UMTS Intra-Frequency Neighboring Cell Analysis
The MRs of UEs reflect the actual propagation status of radio signals. By using the UMTS
neighboring cell analysis function, the Nastar can aggregate and analyze the MRs and
events reported by UEs on the network to check for the redundant and missing neighboring
cell configuration of a test carrier and to check for the priorities that need to be adjusted. By
directly displaying information, the Nastar helps you solve network quality problems that are
caused by redundant or missing neighboring cells or incorrect priorities of neighboring cells.

 Normal method for neighboring cell analysis:

 1. Find the cell with the largest number of missing neighboring cells, the cell with the poorest
coverage, and the cell that has many dropped calls, and then analyze them one by one.
 2. Analyze the key sites of the central area, the overlapped coverage areas between RNCs
and the cells with overlapped areas by the equipment of multiple vendors.
 3. Check the geographical location of the missing neighboring cell when a cell with a serious
problem is found according to the engineering parameters to assist in analyzing the problem
cause.
 4. Check the relative geographical location of the site and the cell antenna and pay attention
to the antenna height, service area type, and other factors during the geographical analysis.
 5. Conduct corresponding analysis on the 3G network according to major local services. The
properties of data services and the typical features of voice services differ from each other.

Suggestions on Neighboring Cell
Configuration
 The engineering parameter information needs to keep consistent with the
configuration data to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the analysis of
missing and redundant neighboring cells.
 The antenna azimuth, downtilt, and antenna height in the engineering
parameter information can guide the analysis of remote neighboring cells, cell
effectiveness and cross coverage.
 In the case of multi-vendor hybrid networking, accurate engineering
parameters of other vendors (information such as latitude and longitude, P-SC,
ARFCN_DL, CI, RNC and cell name) can help the system provide accurate
names for the undefined neighboring cells to conduct neighboring cell
relationship analysis of the overlapped area.

UMTS Coverage Analysis
The UMTS coverage analysis function is used to analyze the MRs from the user equipment (UE). These
analysis results can help you judge the coverage status of the test cell on the network and determine
whether there is any cell of poor coverage, cross coverage or poor QoS on the existing network.
• The MRs from the UMTS UE contain information about downlink RSCP, Ec/NO and transmission delay
(TP) of UE access.
• The Nastar conducts coverage analysis on the selected cell after you set the coverage analysis
conditions. The analysis result will be displayed in the forms of two-dimension (2D) diagram, three-
dimension (3D) diagram and table.
• The 2D diagram shows the AMR, VP, BE, AMR+BE and OHTER services, and the indexes include
RSCP_DL, Ec/Io_DL, and TP.
• The 3D diagram shows the PS and CS services. Each service contains three indicators, that is,
RSCP_DL, Ec/Io_DL, and TP.
• The overview table shows the overview of indicators corresponding to the services mentioned in all the
2D diagrams.
• The coverage analysis result can be exported as .csv or .xls files. You can optimize the network
coverage according to these exported analysis results.

UMTS Uplink Interference Analysis
 The UMTS uplink interference analysis includes management of the uplink interference
analysis task and query of the UMTS uplink interference analysis report. The system conducts
the following operations according to the received total wideband power (RTWP) reported by
the NodeB:
 Preliminarily determining the interfered BTS through the interference ranking function
 Determining the interference characteristics by analyzing whether the main and diversity
Received Signal Strength Indicators (RSSIs) are normal according to the main and diversity
interference signal strengths and the trend chart
 Determining whether the antenna feeder has problems in receiving signals through the main and
diversity interference difference diagram

UMTS VIP Analysis
The UMTS VIP analysis function enables you to routinely monitor the calls of the selected VIP
subscribers on the network. By analyzing the monitoring reports, you can learn about the QoS of the
VIP subscribers. In addition, it helps network engineers actively analyze and locate possible network
problems of VIP subscribers in advance, thus improving the satisfaction of VIP subscribers.

The Nastar supports in-depth analysis for the VIP subscribers whose raw data is collected in advance.
If the KPIs of VIP subscribers in a group deteriorate, and if network engineers cannot go to the site for
problem recurrence and location, the Nastar can be used to obtain the detailed call records of the VIP
subscribers within the specified period. After analyzing the records, the Nastar can quickly identify the
key call records that may deteriorate the KPIs, help to analyze the information such as link quality
before call release, signaling process, and exception cause, and thus assist network engineers in
quickly locating VIP problems.

UMTS Complaint Analysis Support
 The Nastar obtains history call records of subscribers from the network, and then filters,
aggregates, and analyzes data based on a specified history period and detailed call records of
subscribers in a specified area, thus assisting in problem location and solving. The complaint
analysis support function consists of the aggregation and analysis of cause types in call reports
from complaint subscribers, aggregation and analysis of information about call reports from
complaint subscribers, analysis of detailed information about call reports from complaint
subscribers, analysis of procedure before the signaling release in call reports from complaint
subscribers, and analysis of active cells in call reports from complaint subscribers.

fade fast. Therefore, the signals
become very poor during the

UMTS Cell Performance Analysis
 With the UMTS cell performance analysis function, the Nastar obtains the abnormal call data of
problem cells, thus quickly identifying problem cells and facilitating in-depth problem analysis.

 The Nastar allows you to analyze the exceptional call records based on the RNC NE or NE
group. It provides the cell Top exception cause analysis function to help network engineers
further understand the specific causes of some exceptions, thus improving troubleshooting
efficiency.
 The cell Top exceptional subscribers analysis function enables the network engineers to further
understand the Top subscribers whose network indicator values are low after finding the major
exceptions of the problem cells. It can help the network engineers quickly identify the Top
subscribers causing certain exception to the problem cell. This helps the network engineers
improve the cell performance in the fastest way by solving the Top subscribers problems.
 The Top problem cell analysis function enables the network engineers to conduct exception
analysis on a large number of cells in the RNC in the case that they are not sure about the
specific problem cells. As a result, the Top cells with the most exceptions can be quickly found.

UMTS Pilot Pollution Analysis
 The UMTS pilot pollution analysis function enables the Nastar to analyze
subscriber calls. Through the analysis of subscriber calls, the Nastar identifies the
cells where pilot pollution exists, the cells that cause interference, and the
interference strength. The Nastar also displays the analysis results on a map so
that you can learn the detailed situation of pilot pollution. This reduces the DT time
and improves the problem location accuracy.
