Introduction

Mental health disorder has been reported

as one of the biggest challenges facing
every country, including Philippines, with
young people considered to be especially
at risk, World Health Organization (2015).

Evidence shows that mental health

problems are common in adolescents.

 In many societies worldwide, despite growing evidence of the
importance of mental health to ensure economic, social and
human capital, negative perceptions continue to be associated
with mental health disorders and the associated mental health
services and professionals, Brown( 2018).

 National interest in children’s mental health as a significant

public health issue has increased over the last decade.

 Government data show that one out of five Filipino adults has
a mental health disorder, but it is unclear how the numbers apply
to high school and college students, (Javier, 2015).

 In the local context, there are already an existing number of

suicide incidents among the students in the Division of San
Carlos. These are mental health issues that need an urgent
attention.

Significance of the Study

 The community, by identifying the mental health services

provided by the school within the locality, the data collected may
be used as reference for future community development
programs.

 The Parents, parents play a vital role in the development of

the pupils. The outcome of this research will address the parents
concern on the factors that greatly affects their children’s mental
health status.
Significance of the Study

 The School, the result of this research may provide school

necessary information on the extent of mental health services
that they offer.

 The teachers, the end result of this research may be utilized

to design programs, seminars and other related activity that will
capacitate them in addressing the mental health status and
services of their school.
Scope and Limitations of the study

 The focused of this study will be on determining the extent of

mental health services among public secondary schools. It will
be conducted in the District of San Carlos, Negros Occidental.

Data Analysis

 The quantitative data will be analyzed in a purely

descriptive manner, calculating response frequency,
percentage, mean, range and standard deviation for
each questionnaire item, as appropriate.

 All statistical data were processed using the Statistical

Package for the Social Science (SPSS).
