Personal Project -Must

Have-
What has to be included, for the busy supervisor

Diana Afanador – Erika Ferreira

We know…

That the personal project is constructed by the student

with the help of the supervisor.

That the student needs to evidence both thinking and

development of that thinking

The project has different components, which have to

be clearly identified.
The components are:
An achievable goal, based on areas or topics of interest
to them.

Global Context

Evidence of their thinking, research and development

of ideas. (Process Journal)

Criteria

A report. (Evidence of the process and product)

Let’s focus in .. THE REPORT
According to the Project Guide, the report is:

“A report is a spoken or written account of something

observed, heard, done or investigated. A report aims to
inform, as clearly and succinctly as possible. The MYP
personal project report demonstrates a student’s
engagement with his or her personal project by
summarizing the experiences and skills recorded in the
process journal. “
Tips to have in mind:

1. The report should have identifiable sections and all

strands of all criteria.
2. The format can vary depending of the resources available
and interest of the student.
3. Possible formats according to the IB are: Written,
electronic, Oral and Visual.
4. The report does not replace the product/outcome of the
personal project.

2016)

But this is not all…
When submitting the report for assessment, the students
must include:

In the school we must..
Do an internal moderation. Meaning, teachers assess students
work.
This assessment must have a criterion-related approach. (Taken
from the handbook of procedures)
Pay notice to the subject-group guides include information on
assessment according to the group objectives and the use of the
corresponding criteria.
When awarding levels, use the assessment criteria.
Clarify any expectations for the task with reference to the criteria
Be aware that the different types of assessment must address at
least one of the criteria, BUT the personal project addresses them
all.
Ensure the authenticity of the work carried out by the students.

And..

Although students are given a list of what needs to be

handed in.. It is important to remember how we, as
teachers, must include or have in mind when helping
them through the process… (Next slide)
In the school we must..Part II
Assess students according to their own individual
achievement against the assessment criteria.
Only include group work if the individual work is clearly
defined and the individual contribution of each student is
clearly visible.
The teacher must give the students variants of given
assessment tasks in order to make judgments on the
students performance.
“Where the judgment for a criterion differ, the teacher must
decide which level best represents the student’s final
standard of achievement. The final levels of each criterion
must then be added together to give a final criterion levels
total for each subject for each student.”
