READING RECOVERY PROGRAM:
Reading with Enjoyment
Enhances Pupils’ Skills
(PROJECT REEPS)
I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
Poor reading performance, particularly in word
recognition and reading comprehension is one of the
urgent problem of Balingan Central Elementary
School.
This motivates the school to look for an effective
reading program that would somehow help the
learners who have been identified by their teachers
having difficulties in reading.
II. OBJECTIVES
The study aims to improve the academic
performance of the identified struggling
readers particularly from grades 1-3 in this
school.
The project further aims to enhance the
interest of the pupils in learning and gradually
improve their reading performance specifically
in English.
III. INNOVATION, INTERVENTION & STRATEGY
 Done weekdays, 30 minutes per pupil
 The School Reading Teachers followed the standard
reading intervention process (use of elconin box,
running records, reading templates, story books, etc.)
 The reading intervention process, runs for three months
per struggling reader.
 Once the pupils’ reading performance improved,
he/she will take off and another struggling will be
catered.
III. INNOVATION, INTERVENTION & STRATEGY

 All reading teachers particularly class

advisers, do the reading intervention
program during RRE time in their respective
classrooms, daily, following their Weekly RRE
Plan.
BEST PRACTICES AFTER
FLAG CEREMONY
Vocabulary Building,
One-Word a Day
Math Hataw
I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
Many pupils in the elementary level has severe
gaps in their concepts and skills in Mathematics. One
of these basic foundational knowledge and skills is the
ability to memorize the multiplication table, a
necessary pre-requisite skill to solve math problems
and equations. Performing operations in Math involves
numeracy skills on the required 4 fundamental
operations. This makes pupils get confused and
struggle when asked to perform operations in Math
(Muñoz 2010). Pupils often have difficulty with the
concept of number problems which makes them
struggle when they solve equations.
I. OBJECTIVES

 An effective intervention that aims to help all pupils

in all grade levels having difficulties on numeracy
skills.
 This further aims to enhance the interests of pupils
in learning and gradually improve their
performance in Mathematics.
III. INNOVATION, INTERVENTION & STRATEGY
 Done every day, 5 minutes after flag ceremony.
 Vocabulary development, one-word a day-
translanguaging of difficult words from L1, L2, L3.
 The Math Hataw is done by doing dance exercise
while simultaneously memorizing the multiplication
table led by select pupils on stage.
 Math Hataw is not only a mental exercise but also
promotes physical fitness and well-being of the
pupils.
