NECESSITY OF BARRIERS
KNOWLEDGE.
Barriers are the obstacles in the path of effective communication.
• In many communications, the message (what is said) may not be
received exactly the way the sender intended.
• Hence interpersonal communication fails.
• The skills of Active Listening, Clarification and Reflection may help but the
skilled communicator also needs to be aware of the barriers to effective
communication and how to avoid or overcome them
• Barriers may lead to your message becoming distorted and you
therefore risk wasting both time and money by causing confusion and
misunderstanding
COMMON BARRIERS TO
COMMUNICATION.
Physical Barriers.

• There are such things a ineduqate equipment such as distance, outdated computers , Phone
with poor signal, background noise, poor lightning , temperature that are too hot to
cold.Tangible items that may interfere with communication effort.
• Emotional barriers and taboos.

* Lack of attention, interest, distractions, or irrelevance to


the receiver.
SEMANTIC BARRIERS.
• Symbols with different meaning.
• Unclarified Assumptions
• Faulty translation
• Badly expressed message.
LACK OF COMMON EXPERIENCE.
• Usage of Inappropriate examples that others can’t relate because they do
not have the same knowledge or shared experience then this tool will be in
effective
PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS.

• Ill health,
• Poor eeyesight
• hearing difficulties
• pain
PERCEPTUAL BARRIERS.
• preconceived ideas
• your typical behaviour patterns or misunderstood body language.
• Not interested in the conversation.
EMOTIONAL BARRIERS.
• Self-confidence deficiency.
• feelings such as anger, pride and anxiety can cloud our judgment and
prevent great communication.

• Different Communication styles


• Not respectful of each others
• Discomforty in offering the Ideas and opinions
DISTRACTIONS.

to the receiver while the sender gets distracted.
TOO MUCH INFORMATION.
• To much data causes distortion.
• Concise information inadequacy
THE MEDIUM.
• If the medium of communication is too long and takes too much time,
then the message is likely to be late and loose significance.
• direct e-mails, memos or direct contact instead.
