CHAPTER 1
Background
Of The Study
• Some teenagers can define a family as their best friend,
teacher, classmate, and people who can always be there for
them.
• A family is composed of a father, mother and their offspring,
bonded by their love for each other.
• A family becomes a broken home one’s the parents has its own
new family and that children love without their knowing.
• Children from broken home feel very sad when they lack the
carrying, affection, security and concern for lovely home.
Broken family is a major problem of our society.
Statement of the
Problem
• According to the study Galang (2015), on Implication of
Broken Marriages to Filipino Children, the common reasons
why Filipino couples separate include financial problem, lack
of communication, infidelity, and domestic violence.
• Nowadays, students suffering from anxiety and depression
cause of the family broken.
• A broken family can make a child insecure, insecure in a sense
that he/she no longer had a complete family.
Objectives of the
Study
• A study is proposed which aims to explore the struggles of a child belonging to a
broken family. Specifically, this study aims to:

1. To identify the demographic profile of the participants in terms of:


a.) Guardian
b.) Age
c.) Gender

2. To identify the impact of the broken family in terms of:

a.) Academic performance


CHAPTER 2
METHODOLOGY
Research Design

• The phenomenological method will be used in this study to explore


the struggles of a child belonging to a broken family.
• The researchers are interested in capturing the experiences of
students of Senior High School Students of La Union National High
School having a broken family and its effect to their educational
background through their perspective.
• The strength of the phenomenological method is it allows for the
examination of “the ways in which people experience, conceptualize,
perceive, and understand a phenomenon on their own perspectives”
Participipants
• The respondents of this study will be the Grade 11 and 12 students of
La Union National High School who were enrolled during the second
semester of the school year 2019-2020.
• Purposive sampling will be adopted for this study which is “a method
of sampling where the researcher deliberately chooses who to include
in the study based on their ability to provide necessary data” .
• The importance of availability and willingness to participate, and the
ability to communicate experiences and opinions in an articulate,
expressive and reflective manner.
Data Gathering Tool and Procedure
• Interviews are thus useful for gaining insight and context into a topic.
• The questions will be designed using the English language as most of the
target population is fluent with the said language. A cover letter which
will explain the purpose of the study, the means of responding to the
queries, the aim of the research as well as the security of the information
will encourage high response among the study participants. The
