CLOUD COMPUTING

THE CLOUD

PRESENTED BY
SHAILZA SINGH
What is Cloud?

 Forget the old method of storing data in your hard drives, and
welcome to the cloud world.

 Save your data on remote server so it can be accessed from any

machine that has an internet connection.

 Network and Remote Servers can be accessed via internet to store

and manage information.

 In other words, It’s a virtual place where we can store and access
our stuff.
Introduction to cloud computing

 Cloud computing is a network based computing that takes place

over the internet.

 It is a model for enabling on demand access to shared pool of

computing resources.

 Provides various capabilities to store and process data in third party

data centres.
Examples of Services that uses
cloud
 Netflix : Use the Internet to access their data “from the cloud”.

 Google Drive : Personal folder that can be accessed from

anywhere.

 Spotify : A well known music application based on cloud, they

stream their data for you via internet connection.
Basic Functioning of Cloud
Computing
Characteristics of Cloud
Computing
 Advanced Security

 Low Cost Software

 Resource Pooling

 Broad Network Access

Service Models
IaaS (Infra as a Service)

 Also known as “Hardware as a Service”

 Allows existing application to run on cloud hardware.
 Cloud providers offers physical and virtual machines, firewalls,
suppliers.
 Organizations use their own platforms and applications within a
service provider’s infrastructure.
 Because data is on the cloud, there can be no single point of
failure.
PaaS(Platform as a Service)

 It is a platform for developers to create and test their own

applications.
 Usage of it means rapid development at low cost.
 PaaS provides a platform with tools to test, develop and host
applications in the same environment.
 Providers manage security, operating systems, server software and
backups.
 Example : Remote Virtual Machines in Organizations that are hosted
on a specific servers.
SaaS(Software as a service)

 Also known as “On Demand Service”.

 It is an application that can be accessed from anywhere, you just
need to have a computing machine with internet connectivity.
 You can access cloud hosted applications without any specific
hardware, examples of such applications are gmail, yahoo.
 It provides security features as well, like SSL encryption and
cryptographic protocol.
Type of Cloud

 Private Cloud – Managed and hosted for single organization.

 Public Cloud – When service is open for public, architecture of both
private and public cloud is same. Example Amazon AWS, Google
are public cloud providers.
 Multi Clouds – Use of multiple cloud computing services to reduce
reliance on single vendor, also referred as decentralization.
 Hybrid Cloud – Composition of two or more clouds (private or
public) example : data on private cloud but connect business
application that is hosted on public cloud.
 Community Cloud – Infra is shared among organizations with
common concern (security, compliance).
Advantages

 Cost Saving
 High Speed
 Backup and Restore Data
 Reliability
 Mobility
 Huge amount of storage
Disadvantages

 Performance can vary

 Technical issue
 Security threat in cloud
 Downtime
 Internet Connectivity
