term INTERNET.

 Email- worldwide system of sending and
receiving mail in electronic format.

 InternetRelay Chat (IRC)- chat system on


the internet using aliases or screen name
to send type messages
 Small IRC- ex. OperaNet
 Medium IRC (30,000 users)- ex. Freenode,
Dalnet
 Big IRC (100,000 users)- ex. EfNet, UnderNet

 Telnet- permits your computer to log on to
another computer and access it as if you
were actually there. (Telecommunication
Network)
 Gopher- designed for distributing,
searching, and retrieving documents in
internet
 WWW- World Wide Web, it incorporates
all the services listed above.

international organization committed to
improving the Web.
 It was established in 1994 by the creator of

its full potential by developing standards,
protocols and guidelines that ensure its long-
term growth.
PROTOCOL OF THE WEB
Internet Protocols- are
set of rules that allow for
inter-machine
communication on the
internet.

 HTTP- standard means


of transmitting files
written in HTML over
networks. It is the main
protocol of the World
Wide Web.

 SMTP- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, standard
format for sending email messages and attached
files to one or more electronic mailboxes.

 FTP- stands for File Transfer Protocol, which
allows for the transfer of files between an FTP
server and a computer.

 VoIP- stands for Voice over Internet Protocol,
that converts your voice into a digital signal,
allowing you to make a call directly from a
computer, a VoIP phone, or other data-driven
devices.

WHAT IS URL?
 Uniform Resource Locator- a formatted
text string used by a web browsers, email
clients and other software to locate a
network resource on the internet.

 Network Resources are files that can be


ordinary web pages, other text documents,
graphics or even programs.

search engine such as Internet
explorer has Bing.com; Google
Chrome has Google Search.
