• Theater is the one major art form that
brings together all the other art forms.
• A story is acted out on stage by actors
portraying the characters, bringing them to
life and developing plots through dialogues,
actions, songs or dance.
• Props, lighting, background music, sound
effects and costumes are also used to
contribute to the vivid theater experience.

- Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)
- founded in 1967 by Cecile Guidote-Alvarez.
• Tanghalang Pilipino
- resident theater company of the Cultural Center of
the Philippines founded in 1987.

Other Philippine Theater Groups
• Repertory Philippines
- Actress Baby Barredo and Zenaida Amador
established Repertory Philippines.
- The company that not only staged English language
plays and musicals but also trained actors and
actresses.
- Lea Salonga began her career as a child lead in
productions of Repertory Philippines.
- In 1993 they also staged the international hit
musical Les Miserables in Manila
Trumpets
• In 1990 the Philippine theater group Trumpets
began mounting grand productions of originally
written musicals.
• Among their plays have been Joseph the Dreamer;
First Name; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe;
Little Mermaid; Honk; N.O.A.H.; and The Blue Bird
of Happiness
• Trumpets wants to provide wholesome theater
experiences for Filipino youth while also building
up the Philippine theater-going public.

• Established in 1994 by Monique Wilson
• New voice has earned a reputation for staging
thought-provoking productions on controversial
and profound topics

Aspects of Love (2006)


Philippine Opera Company (POC)
• Founded in 1999 by a group of classically trained
singers, led by Karla Gutierrez.
• POC seeks to develop performers as well as
audiences for classical music performances, both
foreign and Filipino.

Harana (2009)
Theater Down South
• Founded in 2007 with Philippine theater mainstay
Michael Williams as artistic director.
• The vision of the company is to widen the reach of
stage productions betond the traditional centers in
Metro Manila, and develop a broader audience base.
