WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

• Communication is very powerful.

• Everything created by the great Creator is incessantly engaged in

various forms of communication.

• We are always engaged in almost all sorts of communication.

• Communication is something continuous and may not have a

definite end.
WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

• “to impart” or “to share.”

• the process of sharing ideas or information with
someone
• the process of expressing thoughts, ideas, and
feelings to others
ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION

SOURCE

B. The reader – being the receiver

C. The topic – the main idea

D. The message - the thought being communicated

E. The written language – the medium being used

PURPOSE OF WRITING

• To inform
• To entertain
• To persuade
PREWRITING

• It is the most creative stage in the writing process.

• The time when you explore your ideas and the
connections among them
PREWRITING TECHNIQUES

1. Freewriting
2. Brainstorming
3. Clustering
4. Branching
5. Idea mapping
6. Journal keeping
FREEWRITING

• Is a prewriting technique where you write all

the ideas that come to your mind within a
given time, even if they may not be properly
sequenced.
BRAINSTORMING

• A creative technique for generating ideas.

• Best done working with a group who give

individual ideas about the subject matter.
CLUSTERING

• Another prewriting technique that works to generate ideas for a

paper is clustering.
• To connect the ideas that you would like to write about a topic,
begin by writing a general idea in the middle of the page and circling
it.
• As you think of related ideas or details, write them down and circle
each one.
BRANCHING

• Branching also connects related ideas.

• You do this by listing the main topic on the left side of your
paper and then enumerating the ideas to the right of it.
• The ideas that you have written may branch out into other
ideas that you can underline later when they show promise for
inclusion in the final paper that you wish to write about.
IDEA MAPPING

• In this technique, you use both your creative

abilities when you draw or sketch icons,
symbols, or scribbles to prewrite on a topic.
JOURNAL KEEPING

• Explorers, naturalists, scientists, and those who need

to make record of their observation often keep a
journal.
• The journal may deal about familiar things or
explore new thinking and new ideas.

do not know what to write, do not be
afraid to prewrite.”
