WHICH IS KNOWN TODAY AS ATENEO DE MANILA UNIVERSITY.

FOR RIZAL’S STUDY MAKING HIM DISTRACTED AND UNFOCUSED.

-RIZAL WAS AWAKENED BY THE TRUTH THAT NOT EVERYTHING IN


MANILA IS PERFECT AND IDEAL.

SUFFERED HARDSHIPS IN STUDIES AND LACK OF FOCUS IN SCHOOL

1877 TAKING UP PHILOSOPHY AND LETTERS.

-DONA TEODORA WAS HEAVILY OPPOSING RIZAL IN STUDYING IN UST

- HE TOOK UP LAND SURVEYING VOCATIONAL COURSE IN ATENEO
AND HE WROTE A LETTER TO FR. PABLO RAMON ASKING FOR
GUIDANCE ON WHAT REALLY IS HIS COURSE TO TAKE.

- FR. PABLO RAMON – RECTOR AND PRESIDENT OF ATENEO DURING


RIZAL’S TIME. FATHER RAMON WAS IN MINDANAO WHEN RIZAL
WROTE A LETTER FOR HIM CAUSING THE DELAY OF FR. RAMON’S
RESPONSE.

- HE EVENTUALLY HAD THE TITLE OF PERITO AGRIMENSOR (EXPERT


SURVEYOR) UPON TAKING IT IN ATENEO.

- WITH FR. RAMON’S DELAYED CONSULTATION RECOMMENDING


RIZAL IN MEDICINE AND WITH RIZAL’S MOTHER HAVING A FAILING
EYESIGHT, HE DECIDED TO SHIFT TO MEDICINE COURSE.

- RIZAL HAS OPENED HIS EYES TO THE PAINFUL TRUTH OF THE
EXISTENCE OF BULLYING TOWARDS THE FILIPINO PEOPLE.

- THIS HAS LED HIM TO WRITE EL FILIBUSTERISMO’S 13TH CHAPTER:


THE CLASS IN PHYSICS.

- RIZAL WROTE A POEM TITLED, “A LA JUVENTUD FILIPINA (TO THE


FILIPINO YOUTH)” WHICH RECEIVED ACCLAIM IN 1879’S LICEO DE
ARTISTICO LITERARIO DE MANILA (LYCEUM OF ARTISTIC-LITERARY
OF MANILA)

- THE GRANZ PRIZE OF HIS POEM WAS A FEATHER-SHAPED SILVER PEN


DECORATED WITH GOLD RIBBON FOR THE BEST POEM.

- THE NEXT YEAR, RIZAL WROTE “EL CONSEJO DE LOS DIOSES (THE
COUNCIL OF THE GODS) FOR AN ENTRY IN LICEO DE ARTISTICO
LITERARIO DE MANILA.

- HE ALSO GOT THE GRAND PRIZE - RECOGNITION AND A GOLD RING


ENGRAVED WITH MIGUEL DE CERVANTES’S BUST FOR THIS CONTEST
WAS HELD TO COMMEMORATE THE LATTER’S 400TH DEATH
ANNIVERSARY.
