What is a non-routine problem?

A non-routine problem is an unfamiliar mathematical

situation that needs a solution but for which the solver has no
readily available method, procedure, or algorithm to use to
obtain the answer.

Solving a non-routine problem is generally characterized by

the use of reasoning skills such as predicting, conjecturing,
analyzing, generalizing, connecting, synthesizing, evaluating,
and justifying.
