Goal of Placement

• A practical period during which students contribute


to the goals of placement firms and develop relevant
skill sets within a real working environment.
• Skills set development includes
– softskills (e.g. communication, team-work etc.)
– computing and technology skills.
• Types of work during placement must be relevant to
programmes of study.
Placement Period

• Compulsory under MQA Requirements.


• Commence at the end of Year 2.
• Minimum: 16 weeks continuous internship. *
• Internship will be graded as PASS/FAIL and will not be
used for calculation of CGPA.
• Students need to pass Internship in order to
graduate.
Note: if more than 16 weeks, it may result in deferment of your registration
for 3rd Year (VISA).
Duration: 16 weeks

Start date: 8th July 2019

End date: 25th October 2019


Internship Processes – 1st Briefing
(All Documents have been uploaded in Moodle)
Step 1.1 - Pre-registration

• Internship Placement Officer (IPO) to brief on


Internship processes.
• Students need to study the user guides from
AP|Link Document Library and handbooks sent
through email to understand:
– Detailed Internship processes
– Assessment and Grading criteria
• Students will be asked to provide personal contact
details (AP|Link online profile):
– Private emails and Mobile Phone numbers
Step 1.1 - Pre-registration

• Go on to Webspace. Select Services>> Career


Centre>> APLink
• At the Log in page, key in your TP Number and
Webspace password.
• Fill in the registration form and submit. Wait for
approval email that will be sent to your TP Webmail

5. Accept job offer
6. Placement form

– Check AP|Link -> Resources -> Document Library -> End to

Step 1.2 – Selection & Application

Preparation
• Students need to prepare their Curriculum Vitae and
Cover Letter in AP|Link (upload) according to the
templates (webspace) provided.
• Students need to collect APU Support Letter during
the first internship briefing.
• Students must sign the declaration form (AP|Link
online form).

Preparation
• Submitting student declaration is under “My
Accounts>> Internship”.
• Upload your CV on the Student Declaration section
before signing and submitting it.
• Only once your declaration and CV has been
approved by your mentor, you can upload the
approved CV on the “Documents” section so you can
begin applying for jobs.
Step 1.2 – Selection & Application

• Start searching for placement firms relevant to your
programme of study.
• Select at least three (3) companies.
• Source of internship:
– AP|Link
– Career Websites (Jobstreet, JobsDB etc.)
• Keyword: “ICT Internship”
– List of Companies by APU Careers Centre

• Students are encouraged to apply for companies
situated within West Malaysia.
• Submit your application with the following
documents if the company is not in AP|Link:
– Cover Letter
– CV
– APU Support Letter

• Check AP|Link -> Resources -> Document Library ->

Step 1.3 – Confirmation & Approval

• Once students obtained the offer, prepare the


following:
– Placement Record and Agreement Forms (AP|Link online
form)
– Letter of Offer from the Company (from the company)

• Once you have accepted a


job offer, your student
placement form will pop
up. You must insert your
placement start and end
date, sign off the
agreement of your
placement and click
Submit

• After submitting the


placement form, follow
up with your employer to
fill up their placement
form and get them to
submit it
• After employer has
submit the placement
form, you must get your
supervisor to approve
your Internship Placement

• Once your internship supervisor has
approved the placement, your
internship placement will appear like
below. You may access this on your
Aplink page by clicking My Account
>> Internship
• Note that Approved status will
indicate that your Placement has
been approved by your academic
supervisor.
Step 1.4 – Assessment and Grading

• 2nd briefing will be conducted during the progression


briefing of your Year 3.
• Before Buffer Week of Year 2 Semester 2.
