causes physiological or psychological
dependence.

chemical called nicotine, that when
inhaled causes the release of another
chemical called dopamine in the
brain that makes you feel good.

• Smokers also build up a tolerance and


physical dependence on nicotine,

attack and stroke.

in which plaque builds up
inside your arteries. Arteries
are blood vessels that carry
oxygen-rich blood to your
heart and other parts of your
body.

diseases such as
pneumonia, emphysema
and lung cancer.

deaths from lung
cancer and 83% of deaths
from chronic obstructive

• Republic Act No. 9211, otherwise known as The
Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 is the law governing
tobacco production, distribution, and use. Some of its
important provisions are

HOW TO START QUITTING?
• 1. Put it into writing.
• 2. Get support
• 3. Set a quit date
• 4. Throw away your cigarettes—all of your
cigarettes.
• 5. Wash all your clothes (to get rid of the smell of
your cigarette.
• 6. Think about your triggers
