Breve historia
 En la antigüedad, para aliviar el dolor, el
remedio se encontraba en la naturaleza: el
extracto de la corteza del sauce blanco (Salx
alba), cuyo principio activo no es otro que el
ácido acetilsalicílico. Calmaba la fiebre y
aliviaba el dolor.
 A partir de la Edad Media y hasta el siglo XVIII,
la corteza del sauce quedó en el olvido. En
1763 Edward Stone rescató a este extracto
vegetal cuando presentó un informe en la Real
Sociedad de Medicina inglesa acerca de sus
propiedades.
 El 10 de agosto de 1897 Felix Hoffmann
descubrió la aspirina, al haber logrado producir
ácido acetilsalicílico puro.
