Cell phone and handphone
A mobile phone or cellular telephone is an electronic
telecommunications device that has the same basic
capabilities as a conventional fixed line telephone, but can be
carried anywhere and does not need to be connected to a
telephone network using a cable. At present, Indonesia has
two wireless telephone networks namely GSM system and
CDMA system. The body that regulates Indonesian cellular
telecommunications is the Indonesian Cellular
Telecommunications Association (ATSI).
The history of cell phone
The first inventor of the cell phone was Martin Cooper, a
Motorola employee on April 3, 1973, although many were
said to have discovered the cell phone was a team from one
of Motorola's divisions (the division where Cooper worked)
with the first model being DynaTAC. The idea that was
sparked by Cooper was a communication tool that was
small and easy to carry traveling flexibly.

Cooper and his team faced the challenge of how to put all
electronic material into a small device for the first time. But
finally a first mobile phone was successfully completed with a
total weight of two kilograms. To produce it, Motorola
requires a cost equivalent to US $ 1 million. "In 1983, a
portable cellphone cost US $ 4 thousand (Rp. 36 million) was
equivalent to US $ 10 thousand (Rp. 90 million).
After successfully producing mobile phones, the next biggest
challenge is to adapt the infrastructure to support the mobile
communications system by creating a network system that
only requires 3 MHz of spectrum, equivalent to five TV
channels that are distributed throughout the world.
 Another figure known to be very meritorious in the world of cellular
communication is Amos Joel Jr. who was born in Philadelphia, March
12, 1918, he is indeed recognized by the world as an expert in the field of
switching. He received a bachelor's degree (1940) and a master's degree
(1942) in electronic engineering from MIT. Shortly after his studies, he
began his 43-year career (from July 1940-March 1983) at Bell Telephone
Laboratories, where he received more than 70 American patents in
telecommunications, specifically in the area of ​switching. Amos E Joel
Jr., made a mobile telephone switching system from one cell area to
another. This switching must work when mobile phone users move or
move from one cell to another so that the conversation is not
interrupted. It was because of Amos Joel's invention that the use of
mobile phones became comfortable.
The functions and the features
Besides functioning to make and receive telephone calls,
mobile phones generally also have the function of sending
and receiving short messages (short message service, SMS).
Now, mobile phones become multifunctional gadgets.
Following the development of digital technology, mobile
phones are now also equipped with various features, such
as being able to capture radio and television broadcasts,
audio and video player software, digital cameras, games,
and internet services. So on the cell phone, people can
change the function of the cell phone into a mini computer.
In the business world, this feature is very helpful for
business people to do all the work in one place and make
the work completed in a short time.

Price of a mobile phone
• If in the past a cell phone was a rare and exclusive item
only for people who could afford it, the upper class, so

cheaper, several mobile phone manufacturers are
working with telecommunications operators to bundle
the mobile phone with operator services with a contract
system.
