ABSTRACT
It is well known that the properties of concrete such as the compressive
strength, water permeability, water tightness and durability are affected by
micro-structure in hardened cement paste. Especially, for durability of
concrete, watertightness of cementitious materials is the most critical
property among various properties. Recently, many types of materials as
organic and/or inorganic materials are used for watertightness of concrete. In
this study, The effect of Stearic Acid at adding ratios on the hydration and
watertightness property of cement were investigated. Cement paste with
Stearic Acid showed improvement of watertightness by reducing of cement
total pore volume.

1. Improving Agus Maryoto 201 Most of the water used in the

microstructures of 5 concrete evaporates after the
concrete using concrete hardens. Due to this
processes, there are millions of
Ca(C18H35O2)2
capillaries in the hardened
concrete. Consequently, concrete
is a porous material. The liquids
and gases enter into the concrete
through the capillaries.
Penetrability of the fluids into the
concrete can be reduced. The
results show that usage of calcium
stearate tend to increase
compressive stress of concrete
until the content of calcium
stearate is 4 kg, but the
increasing is insignificant.
Concrete with 3 kg of calcium
stearate produces the minimum
value of permeability and macro
cell corrosion. Based on the result,
it can be concluded that calcium
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
• The durability and aesthetic appearance of concrete may be improved by the addition of
hydrophobizing agents as a consequence of reduced water permeability.
• Most of the water evaporates after concrete get hardens.
• Concrete is a porous material
OBJECTIVES

To study the variation of compressive strength of

concrete by mixing stearic acid in various
proportion.
To study the water tightness in the concrete by
adding stearic acid in various proportion.
To study the variation of compressive strength of
concrete by mixing Commercial admixture various
proportion.
To study the water tightness in the concrete by
PROPOSED WORK

• compression test (using CTM) is conducted on

cement concrete cubes to know the strength
variation of different mixes.
• water absorption test and Sorptivity test are
conducted to know the permeability of various
concrete mixes.
METHODOLOGY
 After getting results a comparative study can be
made to know the variation of compressive
strength and water tightness of concrete at
various dosages of stearic acid and commercial
admixture.
