a) Identify three types of tests required for obtaining Certificate of Fitness for the steam boiler and
pressure vessel as stipulated under Factory and Machinery ( Steam Boiler and Unfired Pressure
Vessel ) Regulations 1970.

1. Fabrication of Steam Boiler and Fired Pressure Vessel


• All locally made steam boiler and fired pressure vessel must be fabricated by a competent firm
registered with department of occupational safety and health.
2. Modification
• The scope of modification is the works involves cutting, welding, patching or riveting of any
member there off which is subject to a stress induced by fluid pressure other than the repair scope.
3. Application and requirement
• Application for approval of the Risk Base Inspection ( RBI) scheme must be made at least six
months before the expiry of the time base certificate of fitness together with the evidence as
stipulated under regulation 4 , of the Factory Machinery (special scheme inspection) (risk base
inspection) Regulation 2014.

B) A textile factory was prosecuted in January 2002 following a tripping accident to customer in
September 2000. the employee tripped over a refuse causing an injury to her hip. She was unable to
work 5 moths. The management of the store had previously been warned about housekeeping and
cleanliness issues and was in fact served an Improvement Notice. Based on this case, classify eights
provision to overcome accident relating cleanliness at workplace as stipulated under Factories and
Machinery ( Safety, Health and Welfare ) Regulations 1970.
Eight provisions are :
1. Pipe installation and connection
2. Hydrostatic test
3. Maintanence
4. Notification of Incidence such as tube leaks.
5. Repair
6. Registration number plate
7. Record
8. Fees for approval of design and hydrostatic test

c) Explain the safety features and characteristics of working cloth, personal protective clothing and
appliance as required by Regulation 32 of the Factories and Machinery ( Safety , Health and Welfare )
Regulations 1970

Safety :
1. Roofs with sufficient strength to carry loads.
2. Foundation and floors in sufficient strength.
Health :
3. Securing and maintaining temperature for comfort.
4. Sufficient and suitable sanitary conveniences.
Welfare :
5. Adequate supply of safe drinking water.
6. Adequate and suitable lockers for clothing.
