THE TRADE UNION ACT
 Introduction
• Trade Union Act, 1926 is associated with registration &
protection of Trade Unions.
• Act applicable to whole of India except Jammu &
Kashmir.
• Trade Union means an association of workers in 1 or
more occupation for protection and promotion of the
interest of working-class including workers/labours.
 Objectives
• To protect workers against exploitation by employers.
• To represent the grievance of employees on behalf of them to the management.
• To protect and safeguard rights of workers provided to them under employment
clause or labour laws
• To increase participation in management for Decision Making.
• To take disciplinary action against workers doing
in-disciplinary actions
Provisions of Trade Union Act, 1926
• Section 3: Appointment of Registrars -
The appropriate Government is empowered to appoint a registrar of
trade unions for each state. It may also appoint Additional and Deputy
Registrars of Trade Unions.
• Section 4: Mode of Registration –
Any seven of more members of Trade Union may apply for registration
of Trade Union under this Act
- By subscribing their names to the rules of Trade Union
- By complying with the provisions of this Act with respect to registration.
