Ati- Atihan
Itoriginated from Kalibo,
Aklan. Its known as the
“the Mother of All
Filipino Festivals”.
“Pretending to be like an
Ati”
The Ati also known as
Negritos
Itheld every third Sunday of
January in the honor of Sto. Nino in
the island and town of Kalibo, Aklan
in the Philippines.
Ati is also known as Negritos who
have distinctively black skin and
curly hair.
Today they paint they faces with
back stain and wore colorful and
eleborated costumes.
“ Hala Bira!” means Hit them!
 17th century- the moro raiders from
the south were attacking Panay.
 13th century- before the arrival of the
Spaniards in the Philippines, the
indigenous of panay, the Ati (Negrito),
who are small dark (Black) Kinky-
haired people, sold a piece of land and
allowed the immigrants from the island
of Borneo to settle in the lowland.
Majority of the Ati lived in the uplands

Festival every third week of August
It is held to celebrate LIFE and
CULTURE.
It also the event of thanksgiving
for the gifts of nature, the
boundaries of harvest and peace in
life

The central theme is the
multicolored mix of davao and
mindanao’s indigenous
communities and the migrant
settlers.
It is an enriching experience that
explores the past, present, and the
future of the Davaoenos, the
Mindanaoans and the Filipinos.
It shows their beautiful harvest
and masks the survival of their
native people.
It celebrated through a parade
of flowers or float parades and
people dancing on the street
known as “sayaw sa Da’n”

Yearly celebration every third
Sunday of January.
The Sto. Nino Is the center of the
festivity.
Sulog means “like water current
movement”
They gracefully dance to the
rhythm of drums, trumpets and
gongs
It is considered as one of the
major popular Philippine festival
celebrations honoring the Sto.
Nino through street dancing along
with the beat of the drums.
It dramatizes the arrival of the
spaniards and the presentation of
the sto. Nino to the queen
MassKara Festival

It is a wonderful
combination of brightly
colored dresses along the
masks specially made for
the MassKara Festival.
It began in 1980 during a
period of crisis.
Itis also known as the festival of
smiles because of their traditional
smiling masks.

The purpose to start the festival is


to throw away all the sadness and
the grief that was popping in the
air of the Bacolod City during the
early 80’s
 Theterm MassKara is coined from two
words MASS meaning CROWD and the
spanish word Cara for face thus the
double meaning for “MASK” and “MANY
FACES”
