Utility Flow Diagram

(UFD)
 What is UFD?
• A diagram showing the piping, valves and
instrumentation for basic plant utilities.
• Utilities: Services essential for plant to
function properly.
• Similar to PFD, but different in that UFD is
based on utility streams rather than
process streams
• Utility streams include: steam, fuel oil, air,
cooling water, etc.

• Draft to scale is not needed.
• from LEFT to RIGHT.
• pipelines need NOT be numbered.
• direction of flow should be indicated for
each line.
• Diagram size: A1 (maximum) to A3
(desirable shrink fit)
