Simple Present Tense
Simple present tense is that are used when an event is taking
place at this time or an event that takes place repeatedly
(habits). These tenses are the most commonly used tenses in
English.

• Formula :
(+) Subject + Verb-1 (+ s/es) + Object
(-) Subject + do / does + not + Verb-1 + Object
(?) Do / Does + Subject + Verb-1 + Object ?

To form simple present tense sentences, usually used the


basic form Verb, or Verb 1. Except for third person pronouns,
use Verb 1 + s/ es.
Example of Simple Present Tense
• I take the motorcycle to the office
• The train to Bekasi leaves every hour
• Doni gets up early at 5 o’clock every day
• John takes a bath twice a day
• Every year at Lebaran day, most of people
travel to their hometown
 
Present Progresive tense

• Present progressive tense is a tense that describes the work


that is happening now. Present said becaused it happens now
and is said to be progressive because the work is being done
(Progress). These tenses have the characteristics of using
verbs.

• Formula :
(+) Subject + is/ am/ are + Verb-ing
(-) Subject + is/ am/ are + not + Verb-ing
(?) Is/ am/ are + Subject + Verb-ing?
 
Example of Present Progressive Tense :
• I am working right now
• He is working right now
• You are working right now
• He is not working right now
• You are not working right now
• I am teaching english
• You are teaching english
• She is teching english
Present Perfect Tense

• The present perfect tense is a verb tense used to express actions


that occurred at a non-specific time. The present perfect tense is
also used to express actions that started in the past but continue to
the present.

The Present Perfect is Used to Express :


• actions of duration that occurred in the past (before now) of
unspecified time
• actions that started in the past but continue to the present
• actions that started in the past but stopped recently
• It is important to consider that the TIME of the present perfect
tense is unknown.
Formula
• Subject + has/have + past participle of verb (verb-3)

Present Perfect Tense Examples :


• actions in the past of indefinite time
– She has passed the test.
• actions that started in the past but continue to present
– We have been a family of four since 1996.
• actions that started in the past but stopped recently
– He has arrived.
Present Perfect Progressive Tense

• indicates a continuous action that has been finished


at some point in the past or that was initiated in the
past and continues to happen. The action is usually
of limited duration and has some current relevance:
"She has been running and her heart is still beating
fast." The present perfect progressive frequently is
used to describe an event of the recent past; it is
often accompanied by just in this usage: "It has just
been raining.“
Formula :
• We form the Present Perfect Progressive with
have, been and the verb with the ending -ing.
Have/has + been + infinitive + -ing

Example:
(+) The singer has been singing the song.
(-) The singer hasn't been singing the song.
(?) Has the singer been singing a song?
Simple Past Tense

• Simple past tense is a simple form of verb to show that an event


happened in the past. In simple past tense, the time of the event
(yesterday, last two days, last year) or the time period (for two months, for
a day, for an hour) can be specifically mentioned.
• Formula

Past Progressive Tense

• Past continuous tense is a form of tenses to express events that are


happening in the past. This form of tenses can be interrupted by other
events, and can also be combined with other events at the same time. For
example, you were washing yesterday afternoon, I was sweeping the floor
when you knocked on the door this morning, or we were cleaning the
house when there was an earthquake last night.

Past Perfect Tense

• Past perfect tense is a form of verb that is used to state that


an action has been completed at a point in the past before
another action occurred. Actions that have been completed in
the past can occur repeatedly or only once.

• Formula

2. Negatif
• The car had not been used for years before we had it
repaired.
• She had not called her mother before she left this morning.
• You might have been so tired when you stopped playing.
3. Interogatif
• Had it been proved to be true before I checked it mydelf ?
• Had Zidane disappeared from football since 7 years ago ?
• Had you got some water after you took your pill that night ?
