What challenges are being faced in developing the

technology?
• Writing an algorithm that can classify images into distinct categories – use Data
driven approach
• Defining Objects within Images or Object Detection
• Tracking Individual Objects in an image or video
• Image Segmentation – Identifying objects and separating boundaries of each
• Instance Segmentation
• Improving model generalization
• Exploiting small and ultra-large-scale data
• Comprehensive scene understanding
What alternatives are being pursued, what are the
timelines for resolution of issues?
• Use Data driven approach i.e. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)
What alternatives are being pursued, what are the
timelines for resolution of issues?
• Use of fast Region Based Convolutional Neural Networks (Fast R-CNNs) for
Object Identification
What alternatives are being pursued, what are the
timelines for resolution of issues?
• Use of fully-convolutional network tracker (FCNT) and multi-domain CNN (MD Net)
for Object tracking problem.
What alternatives are being pursued, what are the
timelines for resolution of issues?
• Use of Mask R-CNN for
Instance Segmentation
problem.

• It outputs a binary mask

that says whether or not a
given pixel is part of an
object
Provide a critical appreciation- whether this
technology has any future, in its current or future
form.
Image recognition technology has immense potential in enhancing the productivity by
transforming the way we work.

If we are able to overcome the current limitations of this technology then it can
transform various sector like Security, Healthcare, Radiology, Auto Sector(Self Driving
Vehicle), Biometrics access, Manufacturing and Gaming Industry.

Example : Radiological practice would certainly benefit from technology that can read
and interpret multiple images quickly, because the number of images has increased
much faster over the last decade than the number of radiologists. Hundreds of
images can be taken for one patient’s disease or injury. Imaging and radiology are
currently very expensive, and any solution that has potential to reduce human labor,
lower costs, and improve diagnostic accuracy will be a boon.
What all managerial responsibilities will be different
and how, if the technology comes into use in
companies?
• Managers will be expected to work along with AI technology in order to
bring better results and people with complementary skills sets to AI will be
in demand.

• Scope of work will expand as a result of the continued use and

development of computer-based information technologies, employees will
be expected to make sense of the data and focus on decision making
work.

• Work will become increasingly nontraditional i.e. detached from single

employers, enabled in part by technology, employment institutions may
need to change in order to provide all workers with access to health care,
pension funds, and other elements of the social safety net that have been
historically tied to full-time traditional employment.
What all managerial responsibilities will be different
and how, if the technology comes into use in
companies?
• Because of the increasing ability to use IT to reduce the need for co-
location, a widening geographical division of labor is likely to continue, and
new ways of organizing that reduce regular face-to-face interaction will
emerge, at least for those tasks in which direct interaction is not
mandatory.

• Education system will need to undergo a reform as the IT alters the skill
structure on which the division of labor force is based. Educational systems
will need renewed attention on possible change in curriculum.

• With the decline of unionization and a more mobile workforce new

institutions that also offer workers a greater voice in their workplace and in
the political arena are becoming increasingly important for worker fairness
and equality.
