PRINTMAKING
Process of creating art by
transferring an image or
design from a source onto
another material
Prints are made from a single
original plate or surface,
called a ‘matrix’
MATRIX
o can be a metal plate, stone,

wood blocks, linoleum, fabric,

and others.
Whatever material or process is
used in printmaking, the
purpose of printmaking is to
make an artwork that can be
reproduced many times.
4 PROCESSES IN PRINTMAKING:
1. Relief Printing
 The raised areas hold ink.

Example:
The stamp used by teacher in the signature
2. Intaglio Printing [n-TAL-ee-oh]
 The incised areas hold ink
3. LITHOGRAPHY
 The image area holds ink
 The non-image area repels ink
4. SCREEN PRINTING(SILK SCREEN PRINTING)
WHAT IS SILK SCREEN PRINTING?

One of the methods in

printmaking
It uses a stencil to apply ink
onto another material; it
can be on fabric or t-shirts,
paper, vinyl, or any other
material that absorbs ink.
 Now, with new tools, printing of
designs had become faster and
easier.
 These designs can be printed on
t-shirts and posters.
 Even if digital technology has
made printing faster, the design
principles like the contrast of
colors, shapes, and lines should
produce harmony just like hand
printing.
 Using technology, printing of original
designs has been made easier and
faster.
 The creation of the design, using
computer program is easier.
 The production is even made faster
with the silkscreen printing machine.
This machine allows the printing of
several colors on a t-shirt.
 This kind of technology speeded-up
the printing of designs on t-shirts. It
can also be used to print on posters.
