A. CHANTS
are lyrical rendition of different improvised
text.
Yakans do their chantings through solo or
group singing.
There are three styles in chanting.
– Lugu
– kalangan
– and sa-il/lunsey.
LUGU
 are chants used in reading
their Qur’an and books that
they use in their Islam
region.
KALANGAN
 are songs used for
serenading loved ones.
SA-IL/LUNSEY
 is a chant to be sung by
the wife-to-be during the
ceremony.
Maranao’s Vocal Reportoire:
1.Dikker are the sacred songs highlighted
by quotations from the Qur’an.
2.Bayok are semi-generic term for a lyrical
rendition of different improvised text.
B. LULLABY
 is a chant-style or chant
formula used for rocking a
baby to sleep
Ya-ya
 is a song of the Yakans -to put
the baby to sleep, sung in a
relax/slow manner, soft and
soothing while rocking the baby.
BAYOK
 is also a Maranao term for
lullaby
