PRESENT SIMPLE (AFFIRMATIVE)
STRUCTURE

NOUN + VERB IN SIMPLE FORM + COMPLEMENT

EXAMPLES:
My brother takes a shower in the mornings.

We eat pizza when we don´t want to cook.

They drink some coffe in the afternoon.

SPELLING (SINGULAR THIRD
PERSON)
We change add “s” at the end of most of the verbs.

I work → He works, I eat → He eats, I run → He runs, I come → He comes

We add“es” when the verb ends with “ss, sh, ch, x, or o”.

I wish → She wishes, I Kiss → She kisses, I watch → She watches, I mix → She mixes, I go →
She goes

If the verb ends with“ consonant + y” we drop “y” and we add “ies”.

I study → she studies, I try → she tries, I pry → he pries

If the verb ends with“ vowel + y” we only add “s”.

I play → he plays, I pray → she prays, I stay → she stays

PRESENT SIMPLE (NEGATIVE)
In the negative form we add the auxiliar “do not” to give a negative meaning.

With the personal pronouns “she, he and it” we add “es” to the auxiliary “do”.

ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

They are used to show of often something happens. Adverbs of frequency are writen before
the main verb but after the verb to be.

Sometimes (25 %)
Hardly ever (5 %)
Never ( 0 %)
Examples:

She usually listens to music in the evenings.

She always has lunch at 4 o´clock.

He sometimes watches TV in the mornings.

We are always late for school.

LIKE, HATE, LOVE + ING

We use the ing-form after verbs wich express preference such as like, love, have, enjoy,
prefer and dislike.

Examples:

She likes studying in the mornings.

He loves eating pizza with his friends.

We hate doing homework in the weekends.

They dislike wasting their time

You enjoy drinking some beer with your boyfrind.

I prefer going to the supermarket with my son.
