INTRODUCTION
• Desalination of is effective way of improving high salinity water and the aesthetic
quality of drinking water. Water in seas and lakes and rivers picks up salt and
minerals, these salts and minerals are naturally occurring.

• Electro dialysis (ED) is a very efficient technology that desalinates water while
maintaining higher recovery (up to 95%) compared to existing consumer products
like reverse osmosis (RO) products.

• ED is an advanced membrane technology that utilizes this Ion movement to

desalinate water, with electro dialysis the ions move through special membranes
and create two spate streams, a desalinated stream and concentrated salt stream
and desalinated stream which would be used for drinking and other applications.
PROJECT GOALS
The goals of the project are
 A cost competitive, high recovery in-home desalination and water
treatment system.

 To design and fabricate an electro dialysis machine that is compact as well

as portable

 It will use for long trips either in the desert or the sea to desalinate water
for functions such as drinking water as well as hygiene.
PROJECT METHODOLOGY
Requirements And Description

Requirement Description
Water Recovery The recovery of the water is more desirable then wasteful and the desired
recovery result should be 80% of the feed product .
Storage Capacity Capacity of 10 L of treated water is required to provide a safety stock of
water for times when water and electricity is otherwise unavailable.
Unit Cost / Sales The unit price should be compete with existing distillation products which are
Price available in market .
Input and Output The input water with salinity upto 300 ppm TDS is required. And the output
Water Salinities water salinity of 350 ppm should be targeted to provide margin from the
500 ppm limit.
Electrically The product should be capable of operating from standard outlet power (220
Powered VAC, 50 Hz). The power consumption should be less than 200 W,

APPLICATIONS
 This is important for our region and our country especially because we
don’t have much fresh water resources,
 So, our customers are potentially anyone in the region but we focus more
on people who are going in adventures in places where they might not
have access for fresh water.
 Fishers how go on fishing trips that go on for several days or people in the
desert who may need to reuse the water they have used again.
