The six trigonometric ratios:

Sine Cosecant
Cosine Secant

Tangent Cotangent
• How to easily remember the formula in
finding the equivalent of the six
trigonometric ratios?

• MNEMONIC – a pattern of letters that

assists in remembering something.
MNEMONIC for the Six Trigonometric Ratios:

SOH(sine) CHO(cosecant)
CAH(cosine) SHA(secant)
TOA(tangent) CAO(cotangent)
Remember: Master only the SOH – CAH – TOA
ratios, since CHO – SHA – CAO are just
reciprocals of SOH – CAH – TOA.
Answer correctly:
1. With respect to the given angle, what is the ratio of
the hypotenuse to the opposite side? Cosecant
2. What is equivalent to the ratio of adjacent side to
the opposite side? Cotangent

3. In right triangle PQR, Q = 900, PQ = 12cm, QR = 5
cm, what is Cos R?

Why Special Angles?
Special angles in a way of looking for a trigonometric
ratio of “ Special Right Triangles”

What is a special right triangle?

A special right triangle is a right triangle with some
regular feature that makes calculations on the triangle
easier, or for which simple formulas exist.

Remember: Expressions with radicals in the denominator

is not considered simplified. To remove the radical sign,
rationalizing the denominator is required.
