Shelby McIlravy
School demographics

 K-2 building with 294 students

 93% white
 7% minority groups (Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino)
 19% free and reduced lunch
 88% proficiency in reading – district wide
Building goals

 To increase reading proficiency

 Each PLC has grade specific goals centered around this target—
 Ie: By the end of May 2019, 80% of kindergarten students will be proficient (80%
accuracy) on the end of the year Phonemic Awareness Heggerty assessment.
 By the end of May 2019, 80% of kindergarten students will be proficient (80%
accuracy) on the end of the year Fundations Unit 5 Phonics assessment.

As a district our reading scores are already in the upper quadrant – How can we
continue to improve these scores? What areas of instruction can we strengthen to
increase proficiency?
Positives

 2 literacy nights reached over 300+ participants

 Increased collaboration among teachers about reading instruction – horizontal
and vertical observations
 Fundations phonics (new curriculum) - aligns with state standards – systematic
program in critical foundation skills identified as areas of improvement
iReady screener overview

 Adaptive diagnosis
 Data from diagnosis places students into RTI tiers
 Identifies students in need of intervention – reports show scope and scale
 Standards mastery breakdown shows which skills students have not mastered

Overall placement data should be distributed according

to the RTI tier percentage pyramid
iReady overall placement data -

i-Ready Proficiency levels
iReady Data Reflection

 Pilot year – baseline data for next year

 Will be able to track grade level and cohort achievement via standards mastery
reports each year
 Will be able to track grade level and cohort growth via overall placement
percentages each year
 Increased grade level proficiency in all grades that took the screener (fall to
spring)
 Goal: Tier 2 is the furthest tier from goal in all 3 grade levels – how can we
adjust our tier 1 instruction to address this?
MAPs data

Goal scores:
MAPs Proficiency statistics
MAPs Data Reflection

 All cohorts are showing growth within each year

 Growth tends to be smaller as the cohorts get older
 Scores in the fall within each grade level have a slight increase from 2013 to
current
 Why are our proficiency scores historically decreasing between fall and spring
testing? Brainstorm: How can we adjust instruction to make a years worth
of growth according to this assessment?
FAST data - kindergarten

Goal:
FAST data – 1st grade

Goal:
FAST data – 2nd grade

Goal:
Historical FAST data
FAST Data Reflection

 Overall more students move into tier 1 after a year of instruction in K & 2
 Close to goal RTI distribution in all grades
 1st grade - 90% of students making typical/aggressive growth – Brainstorm:
What instructional practices/curriculum contribute to this? Can it be
adapted for other grade levels?
 Winter scores are historically the highest of the school year – Brainstorm:
What are contributing factors to this?
 How can we help all students make a years worth of growth each year?
Overall Data Reflection

 Students in all cohorts are showing growth each school year on all
assessments
 Growth historically tends to be smaller each year as the cohorts get older
 The majority of cohorts are not make a full years worth of growth each year
according to both assessments with historical data
 Tier 2 is the tier furthest away from our RTI goal – How can we adjust
instruction to move these students into tier 1?
Secondary Audience: School Board

 Explain how and why the new Fundations curriculum was selected
 Explain return on investment for new curriculum and goal for it’s
implementation
 Discuss iReady pilot and goals for data use
 Compare building data to other comparable districts
