REVIEW, AND
A CRITIQUE
A. WHAT IS A REACTION PAPER?
A reaction paper is a task that requires
students to analyze information and give
comments on a certain text or media
(Ozzz.org).
Note:
it is different from a review in that it is
composed in the first person and assumes
subjective point of view.
CONTENTS OF A REACTION
PAPER:
In the first part of your paper, it should contain
information on the author and the topic, main
ideas and main points, direct quotations if
needed. Avoid personal opinion in this section.
The second part should contain your personal
thoughts on the subject. Focus on a main
problem or address all of them and describe
your opinion. Explain how the material can
relate to the modern world, to the society or
separate individuals.

HOW TO WRITE A CRITIQUE
STEPS IN WRITING A CRITIQUE:
1. INTRODUCTION
You must first start by introducing the work
you are critiquing. Assume that your readers or
audience has not come across the work before,
and doesn’t know the author either. The
introductory paragraph should end with what
instructors call as ‘thesis statement’, a sentence
summarizing your evaluation of the work as
positive, negative, or mixed.
