Course Objectives
o Detailed analyze of diverse modalities and potential advantages
of the use of stone in architecture through the detailed
analyzes of:
• rocks origin and properties
• use of stone in art and architecture through the history
and stone in design today
• techniques and technologies
o Understanding artistic, constructive and technological
achievements in contemporary use of stone
o Identifying multilayer values of stone built heritage (ambiance,
autochthony, architectural value)
o Introduce various aspects of degradation and conservation of
historical stone buildings
Ancillary stone building with a wooden roof,
village in the area Cosic - Kasali - Nuhići.

"Cardak na stijeni" (watchtower on the rock),


Baščica valley, a hamlet in the area Ćosići –
Kasali – Nuhići; unusual and impressive, witty
building: built on bedrock, as a vertical
accent in the space, "competes" with a
mountain range in the background.
