Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation completes its march ahead of 25 years in 2014.


THE BACKGROUND OF PKSF
 Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) an Apex development organization
was established in May 1990 by the Government of Bangladesh as a ‘not-for-
profit’ company. with the mandate to alleviate poverty through generating
employment.

 As PKSF is a second tier organization, it does not work directly with the
people. It works through its Partner Organisations (POs). In the field,
therefore, the POs work with the people, but PKSF officials keep a close watch
on how things are shaping up and moving at the field level.
PRESENT STATUS
 Since its inception, PKSF has evolved into a dynamic development institution. It doesn’t
follow a particular model of development, rather it encourages innovative ideas.

 PKSF disburses fund to microfinance institutions (MFIs) who are its Partner
Organizations (POs) to implement development programs designed for the poor of
Bangladesh.

 At present PKSF has 272 MFIs as its PO providing financial services. Through PKSF’s
widespread PO network, the organization has access to all districts in the country as
evident with total disbursement of BDT 1646 Billion has been disbursed to 10.41
Million borrowers so far.

 325 staff in total manage all this large volume of affairs of PKSF which proves
incomparable efficiency of the organization.
GOVERNANCE
The General Body
 It is the supreme authority consists of not more than 25 members.
 It is organized twice a year that provides general policy & strategic guidance.
 It approves the annual budget.

 Pursue & carry out the objectives of PKSF that consists not more than 7 members.
 The Governing Body holds the financial control of the organization.
LEADERS & MANAGEMENT
Chairman
 Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, an eminent economist & development thinker and a specialist on
Climate Change, is the current Chairman of PKSF. He is also the current Chairman of Institute of
Micro-finance (InM). He was a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

 Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, a former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office. He also served as

 PKSF is an unique organization and it is 1st of its kind.
 PKSF is considered as a model at home and & abroad .
 Many countries (Pakistan, south Africa, Sri Lanka etc) are trying to adopt PKSF philosophy.
 PKSF played an extraordinary role in eradicating “Monga” by one of its projects named
PRIME.
 In 2000 the poverty rate was around 45%, now it has come under 24%.

“We believe PKSF will go ahead with creative programs in the coming days for
sustainable poverty alleviation. The core objective of all its efforts will be
instituting human dignity of the poor citizens of our country by making pathways
out of poverty in a sustainable manner.”
