1.1 Introduction

Title of the Project : Archaeological Museum Connecting with Trails.

Client : Department Of Archaeology, Bangladesh.

Financing Authority : Ministry of cultural affairs of Govt. Republic of Bangladesh.

Implementation Authority: Aitihya Anweshan (ঐতিহ্য অন্বেষণ) Archeological Research Center .

Location : Wari-Bateshwar, Narsingdi ,Dhaka ,Bangladesh .

Area of the Site :2 acre

1.2 Project background

The Wari-Bateshwar region (Bengali: উয়ারী-বটেশ্বর Uari-Bôṭeshshor) in Narsingdi,Bangladesh  is the

site of an ancient fort city dating back to 450 BC.The 2500-year-old ruins being unearthed near the old

course of the Brahmaputra River  are a major archaeological discovery in the South Asia. It challenges

the earlier notions of early urban civilization in Bengal.

Nearly 50 ancient archaeological sites have been found around Wari-Bateshwar, with most of the

Discoveries being settlements. Some of them are known as Rangartek, Sonartula, Kendua, Morjal,

Tongirajar Bari, Mondirbhita, Jankhartek, Tongirtek.

Prof. Rahman believes that Wari-Bateshwar is the rich, well planned, ancient emporium (a commercial city)

"Sounagora" mentioned by Greek geographer, astronomer, mathematician Ptolemy in his book Geographia. The

other emporia mentioned in Ptolemy's work include  Arikameduof India , Mantai of Sri-Lanka , Kion

Thom of Thailand .

1.3 Project Rationale


i)This project is to creating a social awareness among the people about our valuable heritage

ii)and also making the awareness of govt so that they should concren about not to built a project so close
to the site.

iii)This project will be create its own community which will make people aware about our heritage sites

iv) And make a vision to them about our past. this project will enhance our historical ,cultural image
among the people.

v) It can be said that ,Wari-Bateswar is the richest part Of Bangladesh as most heritage sites are located

over there.The proposal of this project is to design a complete Research facility for this site, so that it can

be the center of research and excavation for Bangladesh Heritage Forum.

vi)The aim is to design an accommodation and food court facility for tourist so that, tourist can stay in

Wari-Bateshwar , as well as visit the other historical sites nearby. Also, to bring life to this site, some

additional facilities are necessary such as Museum and will be introduced.

1.4 Problem Statement

An archaeology museum not only just a museum in larger scale but also it‘s a national symbol for a

country. To represent the past by collecting all the information in a same place and to show it to the

learners among the world is the biggest duty of a museum. Every country which is rich by its history

and knowledge has their own museum to represent and preserve the memory through the decades.

This process needs to have a museum related to the heritage preservation and keep it safe from

getting decay over the time. To solve this problem they built their own archaeology museum.

1.5 Project objectives

i)Presenting the Artifacts to the people

ii)Interconnecting the Archaeological sites.

iii)Providing more facilities to preserve them.

iv) Creating belongingness between Local people & Archaeological sites .

v)Providing tourist facilities to visit the site .

1.6 Scope & Limitation

Scopes:

i)New Archaeological features can be found

ii) Working as a development factor for Narsingdi district.

iii) Being the regional hub for Heritage.

iv) Triggering development of other heritage sites and connection among the sites may

create heritage road of Bangladesh.

v) Creating an international image for Bangladesh.

vi) Creating a tourism based community.

Limitations :

i)People and different climatic factors are destroying the archaeological sites.

ii)Transportation is so poor with the sites.
