• To promote, encourage and require the use of generic


terminology in the importation, manufacture, distribution,
marketing, advertising and promotion, prescription and
dispensing of drugs;

• To ensure the adequate supply of drugs with generic names at


the lowest possible cost and endeavor to make them available
for free to indigent patients;
• To encourage the extensive use of drugs with generic
names through a rational system of procurement and
distribution;

• To emphasize the scientific basis for the use of drugs, in


order that health professionals may become more
aware and cognizant of their therapeutic effectiveness;
and

• To promote drug safety by minimizing duplication in


medications and/or use of drugs with potentially
adverse drug interactions.

CODE OF ETHICS
• The Code of Ethics of the Pharmacy profession
embraces principles of professional conduct to
serve as guidelines for the pharmacist in his
relationship with:
 PUBLIC
 PHYSICIAN
 FELLOW PHARMACISTS
Relation with the Public
• 1. The Pharmacist must consult the USP-NF in
evaluating the drugs of good quality.

• 2. The Pharmacist must strictly comply with the


laws and regulations governing the distribution of
prohibited drugs.

• 3. The service of a Pharmacist can’t be measured


in terms of pesos.
• 4. The Pharmacist must watch over the health and
safety of customers.

• 5. The Pharmacist must provide a clean and sanitary


appearance of his establishment and the meds well
arranged and in proper and suitable places.

• 6. A Pharmacist must be ready to join in any


constructive movement such as the improvement of
the pharmaceutical preparations dispensed by him in
order to gain the respect, affection, and confidence
of the community in which he exercises his
profession.
Relation with the Physician
• The Pharmacist is not qualified to dx and tx
diseases.

• The Pharmacist must not substitute on article


with one another in the Rx except with the
consent of the physician.

• The Pharmacist must not make certain


arrangements with the physician regarding
fees, rebates, or use of coded prescription
Relation with fellow Pharmacists
• The Pharmacist should endeavor to improve and
increase his professional knowledge. He should
attend seminars, meetings, conventions and
workshops to keep abreast with his profession.

• The Pharmacist must reveal any corrupt or


incorrect conduct on the part of a member of the
profession to maintain public trust and
confidence.
• The Pharmacist must set an example and be
responsible member of the profession to
dispel any unjust observation that the
pharmacist is just a glorified salesperson.

• The Pharmacist must not imitate the labels,


brands, or mars of the procedures for material
gain.
