Training for new people leading managers and
directors is needed.

Why training was implemented:


• To help new leaders will feel confident in their
leadership abilities
• Provide them the tools and resources to help
make them an effective leader

• Employees hired into a people leading
manager or director will be required to take a
week long leadership development program at
UrbanTech

Training Demonstration: Building
Authenticity in Leadership
Overview: Authentic leadership encourages individuals to reflect
on their past, identifying defining moments and how those have
shaped this individual. Through this activity the individual will be
able to identify their authentic self and their leadership purpose.

Day 1:
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Power of Emotional Intelligence

Activity Schedule for Building Authenticity in Leadership Today


1:00 – 2:00 PM: Individual will define their own meaning of leadership.
- Exercise 1: Class will discuss and debate common statements associate with leadership
- Exercise 2: Individual will reflect on their most effective leader they have worked for/with.
Once identified class will break into teams of 4 and discuss common characteristics of the
identified leader. After discussion, class will come back together to report findings.

2:00 – 3:00 PM: Emotional Intelligence Overview and Discussion


- Exercise 1: Video on emotional intelligence
- Exercise 2: Individuals will explore their own emotional intelligence
- Exercise 3: PowerPoint presentation followed by class discussion
Activity Schedule
3:00 – 5:00 PM: Point of You (POY) Activity
- Exercise 1: Individuals will explore to better understand and define their personal authentic
leadership style and purpose. There will be 5 separate exercises within this activity. Each
exercise will help to pull out personal experiences. This will be time to individually reflect
discover and define moments.
- Telling my life story: identify key moments that helped define who individual is as a
person and a leader
- What are my values: identify key values that guide individuals life.
- What is my proudest moment?: Identify moments in individual life that they felt most
proud and passionate
- Discover my defining leadership moment: identify the defining leadership moment in
individuals life. Exercise will help to define authentic leadership purpose.
- Defining my leadership purpose: taking the four previous responses, each individual will
identify their authentic leadership purpose.
Exercise 2: Individuals will share their authentic leadership purpose and reflect on the overall
Building Authenticity in Leadership Activity.
Training Implementation
• Trainers already certified to train due to being
external trainers
• HRD will be present throughout training
process
• We recommend that trainers go through the
pilot session to ensure they are prepared for
the week
• The same trainers will be used each time the
training course is delivered in order to
maintain consistency
eLearning Logistics
• LMS developed using internal HRD employees
to generate content and our third-party
conducted program development
• Trainees will be registered in LMS before
training begins to ensure that they have access
to the training throughout the week
• Computers will be provided to each participant
• We will instruct trainees on how to use LMS on

• Breakfast and lunch provided
• Employees are local, so they will not need
lodging
• Audiovisual equipment rented from TAMU
• Temporary parking passes needed to access
building
• Maximum of 25 trainees per training class
