INQUIRY and RESEARCH
Inquiry
• is to look for Research
• is to discover truths
information by
by investigating on
asking various
your chosen topic
questions about
scientifically (going
the thing you are through a systematic
curious about way of doing things—
simplest to most
complex patterns of
thinking)
Inquiry Definition
• is a learning process that motivates you to
obtain knowledge or information about
people, things, places or events.
• It requires you to collect data, meaning,
facts, and information about the object of
your inquiry, and examine such data
carefully.
1. Inquiry is an Active Learning
Process
• in your analysis, you execute varied
thinking strategies that range from
lower-order to higher-order thinking
skills such as inferential, critical,
integrative, and creative thinking
• Thus, inquiry is an active learning
process.
2. Inquiry is a problem-solving
technique

• Solving a problem by being

inquisitive
• Tend to act like scientists who are
inclined to think logically and
systematically in seeking evidence
to support conclusions about
something.
3. Inquiry elevates your
thinking power
• Makes you think in different ways

pursuit of trust with the help of study,
observation, comparison and experiment,
the search for knowledge through
objective and systematic method of finding
solutions to a problem.
• Research comprises “creative work
undertaken on a systematic basis in order
to increase the stock of knowledge,
including knowledge of man, culture and
society, and the use of this stock of
knowledge to devise new
applications.”[OECD 2002]
• “In the broadest sense of the word, the
definition of research includes any
gathering of data, information and facts for
the advancement of knowledge.”
[Shuttleworth, 2008]

experience or observation by the
researcher.
• Logical. Research is based on valid
procedures and principles.
• Cyclical. Research is a cyclical process
because it starts with a problem and
ends with a problem.
• Analytical. Research utilizes proven
analytical procedures in gathering the
data, whether historical, descriptive,
and experimental and case study.

• Critical. Research exhibits careful and

precise judgment.
• Methodical. Research is conducted in a
methodical manner without bias using
systematic method and procedures.

• Replicability. The research design and

procedures are replicated or repeated
to enable the researcher to arrive at
valid and conclusive results.
Purposes of research

 To solve specific problems
Benefits of research to
students
1. Develops ability to work independently
2. Enables to work scientifically or systematically
3. Provides in-depth knowledge of something
4. Elevates mental abilities through higher-order
thinking strategies (HOTS) of inferring, evaluating,
synthesizing, appreciating, applying, and creating.
Benefits of research to
