Title – slide 1
Standing Valve Applications / benefits

Testing tubing integrity

Setting Production packer

Schlumberger Private
Check valve for downhole pumps

To protect lower zone during stimulation

Cannot be blown up hole

One run to set or pull

During pressure tests, Slickline can stay attached.

CR – slide 2
Standing Valve Location in wellbore

Standing valves are set down on the no go

shoulder

Needs have led to valves that can lock into

Schlumberger Private
landing nipple profile

V packing all hold pressure from above

Can pumped into landing nipple

Equalization when setting – ball or dart

CR – slide 3
Otis N Test Tool

Installed in XN landing nipple

Uses Dart to seal

Schlumberger Private
rubber seal for low pressure and metal to metal
seals for high pressure testing

Same system used on type X selective test tool

and modified PX test tool

Should be run on Otis SSJ to avoid damage to

dart

CR – slide 4
Camco A2 Standing Valve

Set into Camco DB landing nipple

Run and pulled using JDC

Schlumberger Private
Equalization when running in to set

Equalization when pulling device

Extended fishing neck connection

Leak paths

CR – slide 5
Camco M Standing Valve

Set in Camco A landing nipple

Set and pulled using JDC

Schlumberger Private
Equalization when running in to set

Equalization when pulling device

Extended fishing neck connection

Locks into landing nipple with ring collet

CR – slide 6
Standard Baker Standing Valves

Baker FB2 and RB2 differences

Running tools – Baker C1, SB or JDC

Schlumberger Private
Pulling tools –SB or JDC

Equalization when pulling device

Extended fishing neck connection

Leak paths

Setting benefits
CR – slide 7
Baker FB2 and RB2 Running Tools

Baker C1 running tool

Tangential shear pins – normally Steel

Schlumberger Private
Otis SB

Brass shear pin to set

Camco JDC – same pinning as Otis SB

Pulling tools – SB or JDC, steel pin normally

CR – slide 8
Baker Surset T2 Standing Valve

Set into Surset nipples dependant on nipple

position and pressure rating

Set and pulled using SB or JDC

Schlumberger Private
First to lock into nipple using dogs

Two set of shear pins, one shear to set device

and one set to equalize

Can be set on surface during completion

CR – slide 9
Petroline RNG and RNQN Standing Valves

Set in QN landing nipple, can be manufactured

to suit other manufacturer’s landing nipples

RNG and RNQN differences

Schlumberger Private
Developed to be used on high pressure jobs

Three or Four sets of shear pins

Complex to redress

Length may compromise operation

CR – slide 10
Extended Fishing necks
When pressure testing ballooning of tubing
can cause debris to come free

Used to reduce risk of FN being buried

Schlumberger Private
Made up from rope socket, stem bar and JU fitted
with steel pin and pawls removed

Standing valve with Ext. FN run on JDC fitted

with Brass shear pin

Some Camco A2 standing valves are fitted with

threads to allow stem and rope socket to be
attached

CR – slide 11
Standing Valve Running Procedure

Run hole, perform pick, record weight

Set down in landing nipple, confirm depth

Schlumberger Private
Jar down gently to enter V packing into bore

Confirm setting depth then take a slight over-

pull (25 lbs)
 If tools come free, running tool pin is sheared
 If over pull confirmed, continue jarring down

POOH, take pick weight at same depth
