WELDING
A process of joining two metals pieces by the application of heat

Classification of welding
 Arc welding
 Gas welding
 Resistance welding
 Energy beam welding
 Solid state welding
Spot Welding
Spot welding is a method of joining metal sheets which are millimeter (mm)
of thickness [2].

OBJECTIVE

To improve the strength of spot welding with the help of controlled
parameters.
To improve the accuracy of spot welding.
To make the spot welding more effective
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 Strength of spot welding depends upon the material used, its thickness
and spot welding parameters such as weld time and weld current. The
heat generated must be suitable to the thickness of the specimen to
prevent burn a hole right through the materials being welded.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS

With the help of microcontroller, an SCR will control the switching of transformer (ON &
OFF)
With the help of microcontroller time interval of current flow can be controlled for good
spot welding
With the help of microcontroller attached with the piston, the force created by the pressure
of piston on electrodes and time period of electrodes for spot welding can be controlled

WELDING CONTROL PARAMETERS[3]

SQUEEZE TIME
Initiation and the beginning of the welding cycle
WELD TIME
Time takes the current to actually pass through the workpieces
WELDING CONTROL PARAMETERS

Hold Time
During the Hold Time, electrode force is still applied
Off Time
Off Time is the time during which the electrodes are off

ADVANTAGES[3]
High welding rates
Low fumes
High efficiency
Cost effectiveness
No filler materials are required
Low distortions
APPLICATIONS[4]
Automobile Industries
Electronics
Battery Manufacturing
Orthodontics/Biomedical Industries
Nuts and Bolts Manufacturing
Fabrication and Repair Shops ( metal doors, windows and other damaged metallic
items )
