Introduction to diskless

What is Diskless?

Basically, diskless meas a computer without its harddisk.

The client work by acquiring OS and Game disk from network.

All data is stored on network PC, which is called Diskless Server.

Understanding Diskless

Traditional setup Diskless

Hard disk + electricity expense Save on hard disk + electricity

per PC expenses

OS + Game installation and Instal and update OS + Games

update per pc just once

Virus and malware prone Virtually virus free

No. of Games limited by disk No limits to number of games

takes hundreds of hours for takes few hours for initial

initial deployment deployment
Some facts

Microsoft Window license is still 1:1 for clients

CCBoot license is subscription based

Recommended to use Gigabit Switch/Routers

Avoid using addon 1G NIC for client PC

Server Breakdown will also breakdown operation

Reduce initial capital and implementation costs

Reduce power and cooling requirements

Accelerate deployments

Reduce installation time

Reduce Hard Drive Nightmares

No more Corrupted Windows

Deep Freeze or Shadow Defender is not needed

No more cloning tasks

Your setup can now ATTRACT customers

Health Benefit is also added. Why?

You can do PATCHING faster! No More Sleepless night!!

Setup Raid0
Raid0 setup:
Create Your RAID

• A spanned volume will create a single partition that will literally span all of the included
disks
• A striped volume will deliberately break up files across multiple disks in an attempt to
improve read and write performance.
Raid0 setup:
open your start menu, right click on computer and
open manage.

Click on disk management. Delete disks

you want included in your RAID.

Once they are deleted you should only be left with disks you do not want included
in the RAID. The other disks will still be there but they will show up in the lower
pane and show their spaces as unallocated.
Raid0 setup:
Create Your RAID
Right click on the first disk you want included in your RAID and select new Stripped volume.

This will open up the New Spanned Volume

Wizard in Windows. Click next and then
select which disks you want included in your
new volume (a.k.a. software RAID).
Raid0 setup:
Create Your RAID

Assign the new volume a

mount letter or mount
point.

Name and format the volume and click next.

For diskless setups, remember to set 32k as
allocation unit size.

Setup NIC Teaming
NIC Teaming:

Purpose of Network Teaming

• Auto failover
• Loadbalance
• NIC aggregation (combine the speed of your NICS) for faster delivery of data
• Faster boot up times for simultaneous client boot
• Faster simultaneous game loading

Should I use NIC teaming?

NIC Teaming:

Setup NIC teaming (intel)

• Download PROWinx64.exe from intel website
• Install Intel ANS teaming software
NIC Teaming:
Open network properties then configure

On Teaming tab, tick checkbox then click “New

team”
NIC Teaming:
Enter name for your NIC
team then press next

Check NICs you want to

include in your team
NIC Teaming:
Select ADAPTIVE LOAD BALANCING

Click Next Then Finish

Adaptive Load Balancing

Offers increased network bandwidth by allowing transmission over 2-8 ports to multiple destination addresses,
and incorporates Adapter Fault Tolerance. Only the primary adapter receives incoming traffic. The Intel® ANS
software load balances transmissions, based on Destination Address, and can be used with any switch.
Simultaneous transmission only occurs at multiple addresses. This mode can be connected to any switch.
