INFORMATION:-
 Located in Seoul, South Korea
 Construction began in 1987 and
the store was opened for public in
1990.
 Building collapsed on 29th June
1995, killing 502 people and
injuring 937.

Reasons of Failure:-
 Pre Construction Stage - Faulty designs, Lesser Steel Reinforcements.
 During Construction - 5th floor construction without prior planning, Thicker
Slabs in 5th floor, Improper placement of reinforcement bars in slabs.
 Post Construction Stage - Movement of airconditioning units, Negligence
towards structural cracks near column and in roof slab.

REASON
• Foundation design with raft and pile
was inadequate.
• Materials were not tested properly.
• Owner removed columns in
basement for more parking space.

VIOLATION OF LAW
• CMDA approved plan was not used
for construction.
