ANALYSIS OF DATA

mAnalysis of data means computation of

certain indices or measures along with
searching for patterns of relationship that
exist among the data groups.
mIn case of survey or experimental data, it
involves estimating the values of unknown
parameters of the population and testing of
hypothesis for drawing inferences.

DESRIPTIVE ANALYSIS

Descriptive analysis is largely the study of distribution

of one variable. This study provides us with profiles of
companies, work groups, person and other subjects on
any of a multiple of characteristics such as size,
composition, efficiency, preferences etc.

mDescriptive Statistics:
Minimum, maximum, mean, median, mode, variance,
standard deviation, interquartile range, percentiles,
quartiles, quintiles, measures of association
Descriptive analysis is described in respect of:

mUnidimensional analysis (one variable)

mBivariate analysis (two variable)
mMultivariate analysis (more than two
variables)
UNIVARIATE ANALYSIS

mFocus is usually upon frequency distributions,

percentage distributions, not stated/missing values.
It is also important to take into account the total that
percentages are based on.

BIVARIATE ANALYSIS

Assesses the relationship between two variables.

v For example the relationship between exposure
training in management and performance in a
management capacity.
mEnables one to determine whether such a relationship
holds or if it is due to random influences.
mEnables one to assess the effect of one variable on the
other. This means that one has to take the level of
measurement of the variables into account.

MULTI-VARIATE ANALYSIS

Multi-variate analysis is the analysis of more than two

variables/attributes in a multiway classification.

INFERENTIAL ANALYSIS

Inferential analysis is concerned with the various

tests of significance for testing hypothesis in order to
determine with what validity data can be said to
indicate some conclusion or conclusions. It is also
concerned with the estimation of population values.
