Qualifications
IBR -EXCEPTIONS
• When boiler is built in conformity with
ISO/R-831
• When material used is commonly used in
other countries
• When construction features are not inferior
to IBR prescription
• Boilers meant for export
IBR-ON MATERIALS
• Chapter II deals with materials of construction of
plates, bars,pipes,tubes—etc
• Considerations are:-
• Metal skin temp 454,510 and538c
• Materials of carbon steel,Mo steel,Cr Mo steel of
cold drawn. ERW and seamless as also castings
and forgings are also dealt with
IBR-on construction&
workmanship
• Chapter III deals with:-
• Shells
• End plates
• Furnaces
• Stays
• Headers
• Mud box--etc
IBR-on WP Determination

• Appropriate formula for calculation is given


in chapters IV and V for fusion welded and
forged seamless drums for water tube
boilers and super heaters as well as for
other modes of fabrication
IBR- on mountings
• Chapter VI deals with mountings such as:-
• Valves

• Gauges

• Auxiliaries
IBR –on boiler &super heater
tubes and other parts

• Chapter VII deals with above components


on materials of construction and other
requirements
REGISTRATION
• Application to CIB with Reg:documents & fee
• Reg: documents to IB for Inspection
• Owner to fix approved Boiler Erector and offer
boiler to IB for identification
• IB to identify boiler & IBR certificates and give
permission to start erection
• Owner and erector to intimate completion of
erection
• Inspection & Hydro Test after erection
• To ensure before HT:-
• a) Steam line installed
• b) BA/BOE appointed
• Registration by CIB and regular certificate for 12
months from the date of HT
• STEAM TEST
• Engraving of registry No on the boiler
PROCEDURE for HYDRO
TEST
• Test at site in the presence of IB at 1.25 wp
• If shop test is not performed site test shall
be 1.5 times WP
• Water temp shall be between 20 &50 c
• Test pr shall be raised gradually and test
pressure shall be maintained for max 30
minutes and a minimum of 10 minutes
• During the test if any undue deflection or
deformation is noticed release pr
immediately

• HT for subsequent examination need be at


1.25 times working pressure
Prohibition of use
• Unless it is registered

• When transferred from one state to another

• At a pressure higher than the max pressure


recorded in the certificate

• Unless the boiler is operated by qualified


personnel
Invalidation of certificate granted
for a boiler
• On expiry of the period granted
• Where any accident occurs to the boiler
• When the boiler is moved,or portable
• When alterations are made
• If the CIB in any particular case so directs
• On communication to owner prohibiting its

EXPERIENCE
• 2nd BA-not less than 3
years as fireman
• 1st BA-2 years in
service after getting
2nd class certificate
• BOE- 2 years in
service as engineer or
asst engineer
CRITERIA FOR PASS
• 2 nd BA oral &
practical for 100
marks with min 50%
aggregate for pass
• 1st BA written for 40
marks of 30 mts and
oral &practical for 60
marks. 40% min for
each with 50%
aggregate
BOE

• Written+drg followed
by oral

>Min 45%for each


exams with 55%
aggregate for pass
Limits of daily period of
Attendants,Reliefs allowed--etc

• A BOE may be relieved of charge in any


one day for not more than 2 periods,the
total of which does not exceed 2 hrs by a 1 st
class boiler attendant

• 1st class BA as above by a 2nd class BA


• A 1st class BA ,with the consent in writing of
CIB,may be relieved for a period extending up to
7 days which can be extended up to a max of 30
days in special cases

• A person in-charge of a boiler be in direct and


immediate attendance when he is within 50 m of
such boiler.

after 25 years,results shall be satisfactory as per
CBB to extend life by 10 years.RLA to be
conducted after every 5 years. WP to be reduced
as recommended by RLA reports
Small Industrial Boilers
• Limitations
• Shell type-max wp
7kg/cm2 &
capacity500litres
• Coil type or water tube
• Max wp is 12 kg/cm2
& capacity 150 litres
• Combined features

• Wp 7 kg/cm2 and
capacity aggregate 500
litres
