Today’s Experiment
Exp. No. : 01
Name of the Experiment:
Familiarization with some electric
equipment’s and measurement of voltage,
current, power for both AC and DC supply.
AC
Alternating current describes the flow of charge that
changes direction periodically.
DC
Direct current (DC) is the unidirectional flow of electric
charge. Direct current is produced by sources such as batteries,
power supplies, thermocouples, solar cells, or dynamos
Task!!!!!!

How can you measure these

AC or DC voltage or Current???
Commonly used Electric Meters

Ammeter
Voltmeter
Wattmeter

AVO meter, Commercially called

Multimeter
Ammeter
An ammeter is a measuring instrument used to
measure the electrical current in a circuit.
Electric currents are measured in amperes (A).

Types:
1. DC Ammeter
2. AC Ammeter
Schematic Diagram of Ammeter:

Ammeter
Should
always be
connected
in Series
with Load

DC Ammeter AC Ammeter
Voltmeter
Used to measure Electrical potential difference
between two points in an electric circuit. Voltage are
measured are Volt (V).

Types:
1. DC Voltmeter
2. AC Voltmeter
Schematic Diagram of Voltmeter:

Voltmeter must be connected

in Parallel with Load

Multimeter/AVO meter:
A typical multimeter would include basic features such
as the ability to measure voltage, current and
resistance
Wattmeter
Measures the Electric power in watts

Types:
1. Analog Wattmeter
2. Digital Wattmeter
