I will be exploring how reality shows

and other media texts affect the

growth of dance.

I intend to show this documentary in

an exciting and fun way. As dance is
known to be fun and entertaining.

I also intend to show dance

performances from people who
haven·t danced before, which again will
be amusing.
I will looking at dance shows, to explore
how dance forms were known to be race
or age specific, and how these dance
forms have blown throughout the UK
and are now performed by everyone.
Ropic: Rhe topic that I have chosen to
take into production is about dance.

Angle: Rhe angle or area I will be

looking at is the influence and impact
that the media has had on dance, since
dance reality shows have started.

Unique Selling Point: Rhe unique

selling point of this topic is that as far
as I know, a documentary has not
been produced that has focused on
this sort of topic or angle. BE

Rhe documentary I have decided to take into production, will contain many different
elements such as:
 Interviews
 Vox pops
A segment where volunteers will dance
An unusual sign in and sign off
 Music related to dance
Graphics to introduce interviewers and segments
Archive footage of people dancing (Strictly Come Dancing)

Who will you need to interview/what actors will you need to execute your idea?
For this documentary I will need professionals such as dance instructors and dancers to
ask them whether they feel that different dance forms are actually race and age specific.
Other people I may need are volunteers who can participate to dance.

ïere I will be showing the audience some archive
footage of different dance reality shows. I will also have a voice
over explaining I am are trying to explore how reality shows and
other media texts affect the growth of dance.

Introduction to the show (in London or a busy

town). Presenter will introduce the topic which is the media
influence on the growth of dance.

ïere the presenter will be interviewing a dance

instructor in a dance studio, to find out what their opinion is on
the media influence on the growth of dance.

ïere I will be interviewing a doctor or a

physiotherapist, about the benefits of dance as a exercise. Rhis
interview will be done in the doctors office or around the clinic.

ïere the presenter will vox pop different people
asking them, if it·s a good thing that different dance forms from
different cultures are spreading throughout the UK . Rhis segment
will be filmed in Central London.

ïere I will show the audience the presenter traveling to a dance studio in London
to interview another dance instructor to find out whether they feel different dance forms are
race and age specific or how media has influenced the dance industry and why.

ïere I will get a group of people from different ethnicities to participate in a

small dance routine and then ask them what they though of it. I may get a group of people who
do not dance at all, or get a group of people who dance to a particular form and make them
dance to a dance form they are not aware of.

ïere the presenter will present the audience with facts and figures about
different dance forms in the UK.

ïere the presenter will interview a professional dancer and talk to them about
what they think about the media impact of the growth of dance and whether it·s a good thing or
not. ïere I will also be shows small clips of the dancer actually dancing. Rhis will be filmed in
dance studio in London.

ïere I will be asking people whether they dance or not, and then I will ask them
to show us a dance move of their choice. Rhis will be filmed in Central London, i.e. Oxford
Street.

ïere the presenter will sign off and sum up the documentary.
Age
Rhe age group for this documentary is going to be from ages 16 ² 24. Rhis has
been specified for us in the brief, so the reason why I think this age group matches
my age documentary's topic and angle, is because the media influence on the
growth of dance, is something that the younger generation are mostly interested in.
Rhis idea will appeal to the target audience because, I think the age group matches
my documentary topic is because younger people in this age range are seen in clubs
and such dance classes.
Gender
Rhe gender of this documentary is aimed towards both males and females.
Even though this topic is quite female dominated, I will be trying my best to
make sure that the people I interview or vox pop are a mixture of both
genders, males and females. Rhis has been specified in the brief that was
given to me, however the reason why I think this gender has been chosen
for us is because, even though people think dance is aimed towards females,
nowadays males are also very interested in dance, as seen in reality dance
shows such as Strictly Come Dancing.
Location
Rhe location that the target audience will be situated is in the United Kingdom.
Rhis location has been specified for us in the brief. Rhe reason why I think this
target audience location matches my idea, is because the reality shows I will be
talking about are located in and around the UK. I think that my idea will appeal to
the people in the UK, simply because the reality shows I will be discussing are in
the UK and this way they can relate to them, as they most probably must have
watched them.
Education/Employment/Socio Economic Group
Rhe employment of the target audience will mostly be
something like part time worker looking at the age
range that was given to us in the brief. Rhe reason why
I have chosen this sort of employment for this target
audience is because 16-18 people are usually studying
in college or school, so a part time job would be most
appropriate for this age group. Rhe education for this
target audience will most probably be in school, sixth
form, college or university, again looking at the age
range given. Rhe socio economic group of this target
audience would probably be in the A to E category.
My idea will appeal to this target audience because the

ïow are they competing for the same target audience?
Rhis dance RV programmes is aired on Sky1. the reason why I feel that this show is
competing for the same target audience as mine is because this show , executes
performers and dancers that are in the same age range as my documentary (16-24).
Another reason why I feel this show is similar to my documentary is because the television
show is aimed towards people who live in London and also this show is based in the UK.

ïow will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to

theirs?
My documentary will be different to Everything Pineapple Studios, as this show in more of
a talent competition, where judges or dance instructors give their opinion to performer
about their performance. Whereas, my documentary really just looks at the media aspect of
dance, and how these reality shows have had an impact on the growth of dance.
ïow are they competing for the same target audience?
Rhis dance RV programmes is also aired on Sky1. I think that the first reason why I think
this dance show is competing for the same target audience is because, of the judges this
dance reality show is using. What I mean by the judges used in the dance show, is that the
judges shown on the show are in the similar age group, for example the winner of Britain's
Got Ralent, Diversity·s leader is in the judges panel, and his age is 22 years, which means he
is in the target audience age range, therefore relates to the audience watching/participating.

ïow will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to

theirs?
My documentary will be different to Got Ro Dance because my product is a documentary
and Got Ro Dance is a talent competition where the judges seek for a dancers/performers
who are very talented in the field of dance. My documentary is going to be informing,
educating and entertaining the audience by giving them information about how reality
shows have had an impact on the growth of dance over the past years.
ïow are they competing for the same target audience?
Rhis dance RV programme is aired on BBC One. Rhe first reason why I feel that this
dance RV programme is competing for the same target audience is because this show
involves many contestants that are in the same target audience age range. Another reason
how this text is competing for the same target audience is that it is again based in the UK,
where similarly, my documentary·s target audience is based in.

ïow will your documentary be different/unique/compete for a more niche audience to

theirs?
My documentary will be different to So You Rhink You Can Dance, because as I have said
before the format of my documentary and the format of So You Rhink You Can Dance
are completely different. As my documentary is a documentary based on information,
entertaining and educating. And So You think You Can Dance is a dance competition
where judges look for high standard dance acts.

In my documentary I have a budget of £5,000. Rhis will be spent of various equipment and payments/fees.
Rhe main equipment/payment/fees the budget will be spent on are:

1) Camera ² Rhe amount that will be spent on the camera will be approximately £600. Rhis equipment is
essential for the product as it will be used for the filming/shooting.
2) Apple Mac - Rhe amount that will be spent on the Apple Mac will be approximately £594. Rhis
equipment is important for the product as it will be used to edit the uncut documentary.
3) Location (ïAD) - Rhe amount that will be spent on the location will be approximately £400. Rhis
location is quite important to the production as this is where most of the filming may happen.
4) Crew (Camera Operator) - Rhe amount that will be spent on the Apple Mac will be approximately £300.
Rhis is again quite important to the product as I will need help operating the camera.
5) Crew (Sound Recordist) - Rhe amount that will be spent on the Apple Mac will be approximately £250.
Rhis is also quite important to the product as I will need help recording sound.

All the equipment/locations/crew members are very important to the documentary and would provide
good value for money, as these necessities will make my documentary more look professional in terms of
