TRAFFIC

MAYCA GREYZ SALAZAR

What is Traffic?

 vehicles moving on a road or public highway.

 Traffic on roads consists of road users including
pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles,
streetcars, buses and other conveyances, either
singly or together, while using the public way for
purposes of travel.
What are the causes of Traffic?

 Uncontrolled volumes. There is no stopping a very high population volume from

acquiring too many vehicles that are fiercely competing to occupy the same spaces at the
same time.
 Failure to manage limited spaces. Government allows illegal parking and gives licenses to
vehicle owners without sufficient parking spaces or garages.
 Failure to manage time. The authorities allow companies to start working times and end
work schedules all at the same time with school and mall hours. Thus movement and
volume are allowed to overwhelm limited time and space.
What are the effects of Traffic?

 Delays-The first thing many people think of when it comes to congested roadways is the
delay.
 Fuel Consumption And Pollution- The stopping and starting in traffic jams burns fuel at a
higher rate than the smooth rate of travel on the open highway. This increase in fuel
consumption costs commuters additional money for fuel and it also contributes to the
amount of emissions released by the vehicles. These emissions create air pollution and are
related to global warming.
 Road Rage- Road rage is a senseless reaction to traffic that is common in congested traffic
areas. If someone is not driving as fast as the person behind him thinks he should, or
someone cuts in front of someone else it can lead to an incident that is dangerous to the
offender and those around him on the road.
How do we prevent traffic?

 Maintain a gap between cars

 Stay at a consistent speed
 Avoid changing lanes too often
 Allow other drivers to merge into your lane
 Pay attention to the road conditions
 Avoid taking your eyes off the road
 Pull over quickly and completely if you have a problem.
