I. What is my speech goal?
 Determine what you want your
audience to know, believe, or do.
 Analyze the speech context
1. Who is your audience?
2. What is the setting?
 Phrase your specific goal statement.
II. Where do I find my speech
materials?
 Find references material.
 Use your own experience.
III. How can I organize the
information?
 Chronological order moves from first to
last.
 Topical order presents information by
headings.
 The segments of a speech include the
introduction, body, and conclusion.
IV. Have I adapted my speech
to my audience?
1. The speech should relate to the
interests and needs of the
audience.

2. Create common ground with the


audience by using personal
pronouns such as I, we, you,
and our.
V. Will a visual aid be effective
in my speech?
1. Visual aids help to clarify, emphasize,
and dramatize verbal information.

2. Visual aids help the audience to better


understand and remember the
information
VI. What should I focus on in practicing the
language for my speech?

 Work on clarity, vividness,


emphasis, and appropriateness of
language.
 Try to be specific and vivid.
 Try to help the audience get a clear,
mental picture of the information.
VII. What should I focus on in
practicing the delivery of my speech?
1. Strive for vocal variety
2. Good eye contact should be practiced
to enhance your connection with your
audience.
3. Practice the speech in a place where
you can stand up and imagine your
audience in front of you.

help the audience
understand the topic to allow
them to make an educated
choice or decision.

The topic may be about a
person, a place, or an
event ( e.g. the election of
national officials )
To consider :
a. What is the topic ?
b. How is the topic made concrete or
“visible” to the listeners ?
c. What new things does the speech aim
to teach the listeners ?
To prepare for this type of
speech, you need to have
descriptions and definitions, as
well as adequate visual aids.
