• Mining will still continue to produce materials for human basic needs as well as for
manufacturing advanced technological equipment, tools and devices which drive the Industry
4.0. Other areas of technology, such as renewable energy and e-mobility, crucially depend on
specific mineral resources, of which many are defined as critical.
• For many generations to come, the recovery and the recycling of metals and other products
originally mined will not be sufficient to meet future demands of growing populations with
increasing aspirations. As a result, mining constitutes a long-term and continuous activity.
• The challenges of mining lower grade, deeper or marginal deposits, surface mining
underground mines, far remote area, longer haul distance, sensitive social & environmental
conditions, safe operation to mining worker, environmental impacts, fluctuation of mining
commodity price, etc
• Mining needs to continually improve its efficiency and productivity as well as its safety and
environmental management – on the other hand the technological advancements lead to more
rational price of tools, hardware & software and services
• In consequence, universities must modernize their education and research activities, in order to
bring up students to the most advanced levels of knowledge, capabilities and professional
skills.
