● They are extremely useful for the health of various organs,


glands and the nervous system.

● They exercise a control on the physical parts of the body


and are particularly essential for concentration of mind.

● Different diseases and maladies of the body can also be

● Man is great divine creation. But in today's world he has
remained as just a machine.

● Best key to operate this machine is our popular ancient


hand mudras.

● World is made up of five basic elements (Pancha Maha


Bhootha) i.e. Earth, Water, Air, Space & Fire. Our fingers &
thumb are determinants of these elements.

● So often we rub our hands, know that you had a potential


to heal yourself, press them in anxiety, wash them, the list
what is mudra?
● Mudra is a term with many meanings. It is used to signify a
gesture, a mystical position of the hands. A simple gesture
like bending, crossing, extending or touching the fingers
with other fingers, can effectively influence our body and
our mind.

● Continuous practice of the mudra will create minute


changes in your body using pulse centres on parts of your
hands, which trigger certain healing processes within the
corresponding body part.

● Mudras are to be performed with both hands at the same

akash mudra
With each hand: Join the tip of your
middle finger with the tip of thumb of
both hands, press little and keep rest of
the fingers straight. Now, keep your
hands near the knee with palms facing
upwards. Sit in this position for five to
ten minutes

prithvi mudra
With each hand: Touch fore part of third
finger (ring finger) to tip of thumb.
BENEFITS:    

● Increases strength and brighten up our


identity.

● Improves spiritual power.

● Gives better health.

● Improves inner peace, excitement,


visualization power.

● Improves memory.
prithvi mudra (mudra of earth):
Method: Tip of the ring finger touches the tip of the
thumb, with the other three fingers stretched out.
Specialty: It reduces all physical weaknesses.Time
Duration: It has no particular time duration. You can
practice it any time you want. Benefits: o It helps to
increase the weight for weak people o It improves the
complexion of skin and makes the skin to glow o It
makes the body active by keeping it healthy
vayu mudra
With each hand: Fold the index finger (forefinger) on the pad of thumb. Press the forefinger
gently on the pad. Keep the other finger aloof.
BENEFITS:    

● Cures gas "vayu" related problem.

● Doing this mudra along with "vajrasan", cures gas & uneasy feelings after having food.

● Cures other vaatah related problems like parkinson, scitica, polio & knee related problems.

● If you have pain of right side of neck, do "vayu" mudra with left hand & twist the palm from
wrist & vice-versa. In case of pain on both sides of neck, use both hands.      
vayu mudra (mudra of air)
Method: Keep the index finger on the base of the thumb and press
with thumb keeping the other three fingers straight. Specialty: It
prevents all the diseases that occur due to the imbalance of the air.
Time Duration: The practice of this mudra for 45 minutes reduces
the severity of the disease in 12 to 24 hours. For better results
practice it for two months. Benefits: o It cures Rheumatism, Arthritis,
Gout, Parkinson's disease and paralysis without any medicine o It is
useful for Cervical Spondilytis, paralysis to face and catching of
nerve in neck o It corrects the disorder of gas in the stomach
varun mudra
With each hand: Touch the fore part of the smallest finger to the fore
part of thumb.
BENEFITS:

● Improves shine of skin.

● Cures skin disease.

● Advantageous in blood related disease.

● Beneficial in gastro-troubles ,diarrhea and dehydration.

● Relaxes contraction of muscles.


varuna mudra (mudra of water)
Method: Tip of little finger touches the tip of thumb, with the
other three fingers stretched out. Specialty: It balances the
water content and prevents all diseases which come due to
lack of water. Time Duration: It has no specific time duration
and one can practice it according to their time. Benefits: o It
retains clarity in blood by balancing water content in the body
o Prevents the pains of Gastroenteritis and Muscle
Shrinkage
pran mudra
With each hand: Place the tips of the thumb, ring finger, and little
finger together. The other two fingers remain extended. As needed,
use for 5 to 30 minutes. Or, as a course of treatment, do three times
a day for 15 minutes.The Pran Mudra activates the root chakra, in
which the elemental force of a human being is found. This finger
position stimulates the nourishing energy in the pelvic floor. The
Pran Mudra generally increases vitality, reduces fatigue and
nervousness, and improves vision.

prana mudra (mudra of life)
Method: Bend ring finger and little finger and touch the tip of
thumb with their tips keeping the remaining two fingers
stretched. Specialty: As it is the mudra of life, it improves the
power of life. Weak people become strong. It reduces the
clamps in blood vessels. If we practice it regularly, we will
become active. Time Duration: No specific time duration. One
can practice it any time. Benefits: o It improves immunity o
Improves the power of eyes and reduces eye related
diseases o It removes the vitamin deficiency and fatigue
surya mudra (mudra of sun)
Method: Bend the ring finger and press it with
thumb. Specialty: It sharpens the center in thyroid
gland. Time Duration: Practice it daily twice for 5 to
15 minutes. Benefits: o It reduces cholesterol in
body and helps in reducing weight o It reduces
anxiety o It corrects indigestion problems
shunya mudra heaven mudra
Both Hands: Bend the middle finger until it touches the ball of
your thumb. Lightly press down your thumb on the middle
finger. The other fingers are extended straight upward. Do this
with each hand. Do as needed, or use three times daily for 15
minutes as a course of treatment. This is a special exercise
against ear and hearing problems. Shunya Mudra can also
quickly heal earaches and almost all diseases of the ear when
used for a longer period of time.
BENEFITS:    

● Mainly effective on ear problem.

● Improves the voice of those who are dumb since birth.

● Gives relax to sudden senselessness of body due to some


shock.

● Cures numbness in any part of the body.


shunya mudra (mudra of emptiness)
Method: Keep the middle finger at the mount of Venus and
press it with thumb. Specialty: It reduces the dullness in our
body. Time Duration: One can practice it for 40 to 60
minutes daily until to be cured from the disease. Benefits: o
It relieves an earache within 4 or 5 minutes o It is useful for
the deaf and mentally challenged, but not for inborn ones.
gyan mudra (mudra of knowledge)
Method: Touch the tip of the thumb to the tip of the index finger, with the
other three fingers stretched out. Specialty: As it is a mudra of
knowledge, it enhances the knowledge. The tip of thumb has centers of
pituitary and endocrine glands. When we press these centers by index
finger the two glands work actively. Time duration: There is no particular
time duration for this mudra. You can practice by sitting, standing or lying
on bed whenever and wherever you have time. Benefits: o Increases
memory power and sharpens the brain o Enhances concentration and
prevents Insomnia o If we practice it regularly, it will cure all
psychological disorders like Mental, Hysteria, Anger and Depression
apan-vayu mudra
With each hand: Bend your index finger and let its tip touch
the ball of your thumb. At the same time, the tips of the middle
and ring fingers touch the tip of your thumb. Extend your little
finger. Use as needed, until you feel the effect, or practice
three times a day for 15 minutes as a course of treatment. This
finger position can have a first-aid function when you use it at
the first sign.
BENEFITS:    

● It is like a medicine for Blood pressure.

● Removes more perspiration of legs & hands.

● Removes useless things from our body.

● Effective on toothache.

● Cures gas trouble.

● Relieves headache.
apana vayu mudra (mudra
Method: The tips of the middle finger and ring finger touch the
of heart)
tip of thumb, while the index finger touches the base of thumb
and little finger stretched out. Specialty: It benefits the heart. It
works like injection in the reduction of heart attack. It is as
powerful as sorbitate tablet. It reduces the gas content in
body. Time Duration: Practice it as many times as you can.
Heart patients and BP patients can practice it for 15 minutes
daily twice for better results. Benefits: o It strengthens the
heart and regularizes palpitation o It regulates excretory
system o It redeems gastric trouble
bronchial mudra
Both hands: Place the little finger at the base of the thumb,
the ring finger on the upper thumb joint, and the middle
finger on the pad of the thumb. Extend the index finger. For
an acute attack of asthma, first use this mudra from 4 to 6
minutes and then practice the Asthma Mudra until breathing
has become normal again. For a long-term treatment, hold
both mudras simultaneously for 5 minutes, five times a day.
BENEFITS:

● It is important to admit your negative feelings and


moods.

● People with respiratory problems often also suffer from


inner loneliness, isolation, sexual problems, and
sadness. These feelings are often successfully played
down with humor.

● This naturally causes a great deal of stress so that


these individuals are pressed for time and out of breath.
mahasirs mudra large head mudra
Both hands: The tips of your thumb, index finger, and middle
finger touch each other. Place your ring finger into the fold of
the thumb and keep your little finger extended. Do this with
each hand. Do as needed, or three times every day for 6
minutes.
BENEFITS:    

● Relaxes weather influences or tension in the eyes.

● Relaxes neck and back pain.

● Balances energy.

● Gives tension-relieving effect, and eliminates mucous


congestion in the frontal sinuses.

● While exhaling, imagine that waves of energy are flowing


down from your head through your neck, back, arms, and
legs, and leaving through your hands and feet. After a

BOTH HANDS: The little finger of your left hand touches the
ring finger of your right hand. The little finger of your right hand
touches the ring finger of your left hand. At the same time, the
middle fingers of both hands touch the index fingers of the
other. The thumbs remain extended.
BENEFITS:    

● It is believed that, our whishes are granted easily with the


help of this mudra.

● Gives relaxation in all sort of stomach problems.

● It balances five main substances i.e. earth, water, wind,


fire, space & hence balances vatah, pittah & capah.

● Improves concentration power.

● Removes impurity of body.

● Balances the extract of various glands.


apana mudra (mudra of digestion)
Method: The tips of middle finger and ring finger touch the tip
of thumb while the other two fingers are stretched out.
Specialty: It plays an important role in our health as it
regulates the excretory system. Time Duration: Practice it
daily for 45 minutes, but practice for longer time yields more
benefits. Benefits: o It regulates diabetes o It cures
constipation and piles o It helps excreting the normal waste
regularly
linga mudra (mudra of heat)
Method: Interlock the fingers of both the hands and keep
the thumb of the left hand vertically straight and encircle
it with the thumb and the index finger of the right hand..
Specialty: It generates heat in our body. Take milk, ghee,
more water and fruit juices in addition to practice of this
mudra for much benefits. Time Duration: Practice it any
time you want. But don't practice it a lot as it produces
heat in the body.. It can cause sweating even in winter if
you practice it longer. Benefits: o It stops production of
phlegm and gives power to lungs o It cures severe cold
and bronchial infection o It invigorates the body
