What are vitamins ?
Sources: synthetic for poultry and swine, cereal grains and wheat germ oil,
green forages, protein concentrates, oil seeds (peanut and soybean oil).
Vitamin E rapidly destroyed in rancid or spoiled fats. That is why these may
cause white muscle disease. Utilization of Vitamin E is dependent on adequate
selenium.
Vitamin D
Deficiency signs: blood loses its power to clot or the time needed for
clotting is longer and serious hemorrhages can result from slight wounds or
bruises.
Sources: green leafy forages, fish meal, liver, soybeans, rumen and
intestinal synthesis, and the synthetic compounds.
Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid)
Sources: raw, whole grains and especially their seed coats and embryos;
fresh green forage; and yeast, milk and rumen synthesis.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Sources: milk and dairy by-products, yeast, green forages, well cured hay
(especially alfalfa), whole grains, wheat bran and synthetic riboflavin rumen
synthesis.
Vitamin B3
• Vitamin B3 is also known as niacin.
This vitamin plays an important role in carbohydrate
metabolism to produce energy, fat metabolism, and
protein.
• Vitamin B3 is a type of vitamin found in animal foods, such as
yeast, liver, kidneys, poultry, and fish
Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is involved in many enzymatic reactions in
the body. This causes vitamin B5 plays a major role in various types of
metabolism, such as the reaction of the breakdown of food nutrients,
especially fat.
• Vitamin B5 can be found in a variety of variations of animal foods, ranging from meat,
milk, kidneys, and liver to plant foods, such as green vegetables and green beans. Like
vitamins B1 and B2, vitamin B5 deficiency can cause chapped and flaky skin.
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is a vitamin that is essential for body
growth. This vitamin acts as one of the coenzyme A compounds that the
body uses to produce energy through the synthesis of fatty acids, such as
spingolipids and phospholipids.
• This vitamin is one type of vitamin that is easily obtained because this vitamin is widely
available in rice, corn, beans, meat, and fish. Lack of vitamins in large quantities can cause
chapped skin, muscle cramps, and insomnia
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 or cyanocobalamin is a type of vitamin that is only specifically
produced by animals and is not found in plants. Therefore, vegetarians
often experience physical health problems due to lack of this vitamin.
Vitamin B12 is also included in one type of vitamin that plays a role in
maintaining healthy nerve cells, the formation of DNA and RNA molecules,
the formation of blood platelets.
