 Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper's subject matter is Jesus Christ's
final meal with his apostles before Judas Iscariot identified Jesus Christ
to the authorities who was going arrest him. The painting is
representational because it represents a betrayal by someone whom he
trusted and thought many lessons. Leonardo Da Vinci's style in painting
The Last Supper is representational of life-like portrayals of every
individual, the utilization of room, and his capacity to attract the eye to
the point of convergence of Jesus Christ.
 As Leonardo da Vinci depicts the scene of the painting, it has a
representation of various events that happened in a succession of
moments rather than a frozen moment. The painting depicts a
dramatic scene which is successive moments of the Gospel,
including Matthew 26:21–28, in which Jesus Christ said that one of
the Apostles was going to betray and institutes the Eucharist.

 Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper is one of the world's
renowned portraits, brilliantly painted by Leonardo da Vinci,
painted about 1495 and 1498 for depicting Milan's Dominican
Monastery. The scene depicted in the painting is quite dramatic,
which is an integration of various successive or connected
moments in the Gospels, in which Jesus Christ says that it is one
of the Apostles that can betray him.
When Jesus Christ declares that one of them can be a betrayer
and can become the cause behind his death, different reactions
shown by the figures can be seen in the picture. Thus, it a dramatic
scene that feels like a moving picture and represents movement. It
may be seen as a scene where all people show their reactions and
different expressions towards some kind of thought or proposition.

 Leonardo da Vinci used linear perspective techniques, which were
largely rediscovered during the Renaissance period, incorporated with
parallel lines to depict or show depth illusion on a flat surface or give
depth to a flat surface. The vanishing point of the linear perspective
technique is Jesus Christ's right temple, which draws viewers' attention
towards a particular or specific point. Visual Paradoxes Scholars have
noted that the painted surface of the painted surface can be slightly not in
accord with the painting's refectory space.
4. CONTEXTUAL AND
FORMAL ANALYSIS OF
LEONARDO DA VINCI’S
THE LAST SUPPER
THE SETTING

The painting depicts the oblong wall, which can be seen as the
monk's refectory in the Monastery. The picture depicts side by side
tables, which shows the table of Christ and his Apostles
THE COMPOSITION

The picture is very different from the biblical story representation where Apostles
were generally seen quietly sitting in a row at the table. However, it can be seen that
Jesus Christ is silent among all the turmoil in the Apostles. It may be due to what Jesus
Christ said, which shook terror among the Apostles after hearing the revelation made by
Jesus Christ.

The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci affirm the character of the individual

messengers in Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. From left to right direction in the
composition, they are portrayed in four gatherings of three and respond to the news.
THE COMPOSITION

In the first group of three, Bartholomew, James the Less, and Andrew are completely amazed. In the
second group of three, Judas Iscariot is shocked; close to him, Peter holds a blade and looks turbulent,
while the innocent John, the most youthful witness, essentially swoons. In the third group of three,
Thomas is disturbed; James the Greater is stunned. Philip needs clarification. In the fourth and final
group of three, Jude Thaddeus and Matthew go to Simon the Zealot for answers. So, Leonardo da Vinci’s
The Last Supper catches twelve people amidst questioning, motioning, or demonstrating different shades
of loathsomeness, outrage, and incredulity.

The figure of Jesus Christ is given a three-sided shape, set apart by his head and two outstretched arms.
Jesus Christ is the dynamic focus of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. A few compositional
highlights merge on his figure, while his head speaks to every viewpoint line's disappearing point. This
occasion makes Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper the embodiment of the point of view of the
Renaissance.

It can be seen in the painting that closes the figures are at the center, the
more the significant are the reactions made by Apostles. This can show the
understanding of Leonardo da Vinci towards the laws of acoustics.
Leonardo da Vinci's fastidious painting of The Last Supper, alongside his
abilities as a painter, artist, researcher, and designer, just as his emphasis on
the poise of man, has added to his notoriety for being the exemplification of
scholarly craftsman and inventive mastermind, instead of simply a
beautifying painter paid to paint so many square yards daily.
